Makes you wonder if is due to some chip sets that are not fast enough or flawed in some way but Ford wants to fix it with software?
Has nothing to do with the cameras themselves. If people would bother to read the recall notice, it's from a memory leak in the software. It's just poorly coded software.

It takes time to find these kinds of errors, there are likely thousands of lines of code related to the operation of the camera. The software engineers have to go over each line of code just to find the source of the problem. That might sound simple, but it could be due to a simple typo in a small portion of one line of code, or several in multiple lines for that matter.

It's like trying to find spelling and grammar errors in a long forum essay, not a quick or simple thing to do.

I realize it’s not the camera but the picture must shown on the head unit. Software issues usually affect everyone the same as the code does the same thing when given the same parameters so why is it only affecting some of the trucks? I am a self taught programmer (7 languages) who worked on the side debugging Clipper software that was running a hardware store/ tool rental companies payment and rental tracking. I also used to built and installed Novel networks including building and programming the computer stations.

It impacts everyone using the same version of Sync (XL and XLT trim from 2022-2024) The Lariat is not impacted since the Lariat uses a different version of Sync. So.....it is exactly as you described. "Software issues usually affect everyone the same as the code does the same thing when given the same parameters"

Nope
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Requires that ALL vehicles under 10,000 pounds manufactured or sold in the United States have an operational backup camera.
Think of the camera as you would, non-operating headlights, wipers, turn signals, brake lights, seat belts
.
Now that you mention it I think I heard that before. This is my first vehicle that came with a camera stock. I did have a company car for a while that had one but my last personal vehicle missed having 1 by 1 model year.

I would think you'd know that memory leaks don't hit all the time then. It's usually a very rare thing to happen in practice. In 2 1/2 years owning my Maverick the camera has only completely locked up twice. That's with using the camera at least two times a day every work day. If it happened every time it would not be usable.

Correct. This is not a binary issue where the two states are either "the camera is dead" or "I have zero issues". For 99% of us it is somewhere in the middle. I had a 2022 XL and currently drive a 2023 XL. I have at most experienced a slight lag in initial display of the camera feed. I can recall a couple times where the live feed did seem a bit choppy. But nothing drastic. The Lariat trim has not been included in this recall/stop sale since it uses a "better" version of Sync. Before you ask why they don't just give us all that version of Sync.....it would take hardware upgrade as well. I suppose that begs the question "well.....doesn't that mean it could be the hardware?"

Maybe.....haha.

People keep referring "to the Camera"..
But, does not the Camera, just "Record/Capture" the image?
And the other hardware/software processes that image??
And there lies the "Problem"...

Right. The actual camera is the same camera on all the trims as far as I know. If you got in an accident and needed to replace your tailgate, it would be the same for an XL as it would be for a Lariat. It is the software that differs. And some hardware modules (the APIM) that is needed to support the higher level of Sync on the Lariat. The fact that the APIM differs is probably a large contributing factor to why the fix isnt simply "give everyone the better Sync". The cost to Ford to give everyone a new APIM (and the labor costs to do that replacement) are not insignificant. Hence the push for a software patch.

I can't recall what news program I was watching but it had to do with a computer issue. The reporter stated that the computer's problem could be with hardware and/or software. Talk about brilliance by that reporter. What other thing would it be if it wasn't one of those two?

Parameters include audio on or off.
If audio on is it radio, USB, or bluetooth?
If bluetooth connected, how quick does phone allow connection, depending on what it's doing, and of course what truck is doing?
If USB how many files to be indexed and how complex the folder structure and to find what was playing?
Even if no Bluetooth audio, is it connecting anyway?
Cable connection for Android Auto / Apple Carplay trying to bring up a screen?
How quickly after start is reverse being used?
When is the privacy screen reminder coming up?
How quickly is reverse image changing, how fast moving?

The infotainment center is far from dealing with the same parameters when time to display the image.

And any coders newer than say 386 days, are doubtful to be experienced in tight assembly language coding, or even just to have non-project team sections of code doing their own thing.

My 2024 XL Hybrid has never experienced an issue with the rear camera performance.
Same here. Even though I got the recall letter.

Now if they will own up to the paint issues. That would be good.
