Consumer Reports April 2024 edition:
  • Listed in good (but not best, probably not enough years recorded yet) used vehicle list
  • Rated "above average" for '22 and '23 MYs ("body hardware" was the only ding)
  • On their test track, the hybrid did 14mpg better than the turbo

Amazing to me how close the 0-60 is with 14 mpg difference. My hybrid never feels slow to me.
Pretty happy with the off-line acceleration on a hybrid when it’s in sport mode. It’s a lot quicker than I thought. Loving the Lariat

What was the "Power Equipment" that they dinged on the MY22 but recommended on the MY23?

Also any details on what "Body Hardware" they were unhappy with?

The story's a little more complicated:

Although the overview narrative in the OP refers to both powertrains, CR considers the hybrid a separate vehicle for reliability purposes.

For predicted reliability, hybrid gets an "average" rating (60/100), whereas Eco (whose ratings are shown in the OP) is "above average" (71/100).

'22 hybrid got dinged bigly on brakes (surprise, surprise), with a "well below average" rating, and on powertrain, with a "below average" rating.

However, the overall reliability verdict for '23 is "well above average" for hybrid and "above average" for Eco.

Don't try too hard to understand CR auto ratings... your head will hurt.

[Edited to use the correct/current the CR ratings terminology]

I can attest to this. I've already had my Ecoboost for almost two years and it's been rock solid reliable. I did have an AWD powertrain fault that pretty much fixed itself the day after. What triggered it was stomping on it when it didn't get to full temperature yet so it was self-generated. Cosmetically it's had some issues. I've had both roof moldings replaced and the inevitable airbag recall. But that's my own fault for getting a first model year vehicle. With the '24 FX4 on the way, all of those issues should be remedied, at least I would hope.

I am glad CR separated the EcoBoost and Hybrid. The Hybrids have more issues, which is surprising to me.

Biggest issues I’ve got with my 22 Lariat AWD Is dash rattles and windshield. As long as I’m on a smooth road no rattles, city streets and it’s rattle city. The windshield is horrible, I think it’s made of cheap glass that pecks really easy. It has sparkly tiny chips all over and is impossible to get clean.

I don’t have a windshield rattle, but have noticed when turning on a slope in a parking lot or off road, I’m getting a lot of pops and crackles from my back window that makes me cringe when i have to drive in those situations.

My rattle is in the dash, I don’t think it’s the windshield. The windshield is just covered in little shiny specks which looks like little tiny chips in the glass. It’s gotten worse since the cold weather.

I think they were talking about the lack of available cruise control on the XL MY22. It came standard on the MY23.
