Hey everyone,
I’m pretty new to the Maverick community and was curious what made people here choose the Maverick instead of other compact or midsize trucks.
Was it:
  • Fuel economy?
  • Hybrid option?
  • Price/value?
  • Daily drivability?
  • Truck utility without full-size truck size?
  • Mods/community support?
  • Would also be cool to hear what trims and setups everyone ended up going with and how ownership has been so far. Looking forward to hearing different experiences.

I never planned on buying a truck until
I saw the Maverick. I was in the market for a vehicle and was fully expecting to buy a Kia Niro. The used car prices were out of control so I got a brand new vehicle with more capability for a lower price. The rest is history!

I am with you on this one. Was not sure what I am getting into but looking at the prices of other vehicles, this was a no brainer considering it was a Hybrid and a truck as well.

I came from F-350 F-250 then F-150s, and my last truck was a 2020 Ford Ranger. Honestly, I realized I didn't need the footprint of a full-size or even a midsize truck anymore. The Maverick hit the sweet spot for me by providing the right balance of power, price and fuel economy for my daily needs. 2024 Ford Maverick Lariat Tremor

I grew up in the era of the mini truck (1970's, yes, I know most of you think it was in the 80's, but the 1976 Datsun pickup was all the rave). I loved them and was sorry to see them dissappear. Today, my business occasionally requires me to drive long distance (2 or more hours one way). I got spoiled by 48mpg by owning a Prius. But the Prius was a low profile vehicle, and sometimes I need to drive into unpaved roads to take pictures. The Prius couldn't handle that.

So, I started looking for used mini-trucks. Most had a lot of mileage and I didn't feel comfortable driving them up the 395 here in California during the summer in the heat. The Maverick came out and I decided to see how well they held up after the first year. By the middle of 2023, I decided to get one. The price was one reason. The things that came with it sealed the deal (power drivers seat, heated seats, moon roof, heated steering wheel, key pad entry, AC power plug in rear seating area and truck bed, you get my drift!).

Now I can drive anywhere my job takes me and not worry about scraping the bottom. I've actually gone 6 hours to Havasu lake in 100+ heat in air conditioning comfort, shoot my photos, drive back home in time to enjoy dinner with the wifeepoo. Oh, and averaging 45-47mpg!!

The Maverick nailed it for me!

Bought my own AGM battery in May 2024, adjusted my charge rate to 95% and now I occasionally get the "sleep" message, but I realize that that is a Ford issue. I carry a jumper.

I'm happy!

I ORGINALLY WENT TO LOOK AT A LARIAT RANGER , I NEEDED A SMALL TRUCK AND ITS MAINLY JUST ME IN IT , AND/OR OTHER PERSON . OUR SD AND MY SEQUOIA KILL ME IN GAS. I FELT I WAS GETTING MORE FOR MY MONEY WITH THE MAVERICK , IT DID EVERYTHING I WAS GOING TO NEED IT FOR AND SOME . I SAVED LIKE $8K AND AM GETTING ALMOST 7MPG MORE THEN I WOULD OF WITH THE RANGER .

IVE OWNED IT ABOUT 10 MO AND 35K LATER, IT STILL DOESNT STOP AMAZING ME , THERES SOME LITTLE THINGS I WISH IT HAD BUT THIER MORE PERSONAL PREF. SINCE IVE GOTTEN IT IVE ADDED THERMAL EXHAUST , GO FAST BITS BLOW OFF VALVE , KN FILTER ( WAITING FOR S&B COLD AIR ) LEVELED THE FRONT AND 245/70/17 BFG KO3 ,MASSIVE STRUT BRACE AND TOE ARMS AND FMS REAR LOBO SWAY BAR,

I bought my Maverick for truck utility without being a "monster truck". It was one of the best vehicle purchases I ever made!

  1. Fuel economy - Check
  2. Hybrid option - Check
  3. Price/value - Check
  4. Daily drivability - Check
  5. Truck utility without full-size truck size - Check
  6. Mods/community support - Check - This forum helped a lot
As far as trims and setups, research on this forum and looking at Ford's build site helped a lot, and enabled me to build a vehicle that had everything I wanted, and as importantly, nothing that I didn't. For me it was the XL, partly for item #3, but also because I prefer a keyed ignition which means the XL. Having the option to get an AWD hybrid with the 4K was the deal clincher.

Problems have been minimal and addressed with software updates, mileage has been fantastic, and the more I drive the truck, the more I like it.

Price, 100%.

To be honest, the Maverick (and Ford in general) was my least-favorite option, but there was some urgency at the time, and the value proposition in finding a barely-used Maverick was compelling.

I've owned a truck before, but in my life, pickups are about the same level of practicality as an SUV, for better or worse.

I've never had any interest in trucks. I wanted to buy a Ford, though. I also have no interest in SUVs/CUVs. I wanted a car. The only car Ford offers now is the expensive and less-practical-than-ever Mustang.

I saw my first Maverick at a new car show. It had a bed cover. Looking at it, and considering its unibody construction, I realized that with a bed cover, it's essentially a sedan with a big trunk.

So that's why I chose the Maverick over other trucks.

Well since you took what appears to be a risky move with Ford and the Maverick…. Was it:
A. Made the proper choice. Worth the price (At the time).
B. Why did I do it? P.O.S. Never again.
C. Better than I was expecting.
???

All of those have been true, depending on the day.

I have had trucks most of my adult life with a small SUV for 10 years trying to get some better MPG.

I don't really haul anything, just nice to be able to through something back there and not worry about it messing up the interior. For a long time a co worker and I would talk about vehicles and I was always like if they would make a small SUV with a bed it would be great. I really liked the idea of the Ridgeline but not very good on MPG.

I wasn't expecting a whole lot when I heard about the Maverick but as soon as it came out and was the price it was and had the Hybrid it had my interest.

When i was ready in Late 23 to buy I was directly shopping the Maverick, Santa Cruz, and the 24 Tacoma. I thought the Tacoma might have a MPG focused version.

I liked the look and feel of the Santa Cruz a lot, had it had a hybrid version available it might have been slightly harder decision, but the Maverick would have probably still won because of it's roominess inside compared to the Santa Cruz

The Tacoma looked nice but they didn't have a MPG focused Hybrid, and on top of that it felt quite a bit smaller inside than the Maverick.

Top two treasons for the Maverick over others. 1. Hybrid that was MPG focused. 2. Roominess inside

I don't even have a Maverick yet. As you can see from my join date, I've been following the Maverick since it was first announced. I've had all sorts of vehicles; mostly pickup trucks, SUVs, and vans. I've been "right-sizing" the type of vehicle that I've had. I went from a crew cab long bed F-250 (172" wheelbase) to a Nissan Frontier. Needed the 8-foot bed on the F-250 maybe once a year, and for that I can just tow a U-haul trailer with the Frontier.

Even at first release, no other vehicle offered the capability, utility, and fuel economy for the price. What other vehicle can get nearly 40MPG, safely carry a washing machine and dryer or ten sheets of plywood, and is factory-rated to tow 2-4k lbs? Not a whole lot.

I was gonna preorder one but I held back. I really wanted hybrid AND AWD, or maybe a FWD PHEV. But the hybrid was only offered as FWD at release. Knowing Ford, I figured I could wait a couple more years for the midcycle refresh to see if a hybrid AWD was gonna be announced, and what do you know, now you can get a hybrid AWD 4k tow, so that's what I'm hiding in the bushes for...a 2025+ XL hybrid AWD 4k tow.

I initially thought I needed the XLT Lux to get the power seat, but the Maverick's 6-way manual seats are more comfortable to me than 12-way power in my Nissan Frontier. Only other features I sorta wanted are heated seats (which are easy enough to add aftermarket) and automatic climate control. The XL has single-zone auto, despite what all of Ford's promo material says.
