Included are photos of camper, Maverick, and Yellowstone National Park. Hello yes I put our Maverick to the test.
Our trip of 4500 miles started in Ocean Shores WA. Took us to unbelievable Yellowstone National Park, down to San Angelo Texas, then back home.
Here's some numbers to think about are A-frame pop-up camper weights in at 1850 pounds. That's no water or propane in the tanks or food, chairs or bedding. Anyway you add all that plus a Generator, two suit cases and other things that fill up the bed. Yes, all that plus two adults and a dog and I'm sure we're at are max 2000 pound tow capacity maybe a bit more.
For freeway driving speeds I did mostly 72 or 67 MPH, posted limits 75/ 80 or 65 MPH. The mountain roads didn't slow the Maverick one little bit, but it was the first time I saw the percentage of engine go above 25 percent. In fact depending on the grade of the hill or how quickly the grade changed. I started seeing as well as hearing the motor racing, as the percentage would sometimes rise as high as 80 percent. I felt confident in the Maverick's ability to handle the task.
As far as the trucks water temperature, it stayed safely in the normal less than one half of display. Outside temperatures ran the gambit from the 50s to 110 degrees.
Now for the mileage, now this is highway and is averaged (22.7 MPG). I am very happy with this, it's a big shift from the 50.4 MPG we get without the load but I'm not complaining.
