So I usually have a fire extinguisher in one, and some ratchet straps in the other (installed one on the passenger side). Got the set from Amazon, only needed to lightly Dremel the home for it to fit. Easy process, I think it's been posted before, but just thought I'd share.

Well the car is parked on the street often, and had a couple neighbors have their cars ransacked lately. Probably not ideal, but rather it be locked and fumble with the key instead of needing it and it not being there.

Nice work.

I had plans to put locks on mine, but so far my tie downs have not been stolen. I park at a trail head where valuables left in plain sight will result in a window smash and grab. I hate to make anything easy for a thief.

Thanks! I had seen that as well, but had a friend who had an extinguisher burst inside his car in the Vegas heat, it took him a while to clean it all out.

Yeah, no point in using locks until something is actually stolen.

Have cubbies on both sides but don't need 🔐 since I have hard undercover armor tonneau with locking tailgate . It's secure enough for me .

If I'm ransacking vehicles one by one, the last thing on a piece of plastic that will deter me is a cheap lock. Pry bar will make quick work of it. Unfortunately I am speaking from experience, especially with car audio. Not proud of it but I'll admit it.

I get it though. We do what we can. Some areas are worse than others and I'm glad I don't live anywhere I actually grew up in lol. But this is like putting a lock on a suitcase when all it takes is something sharp to cut the zipper open. It's gonna be more hassle for you than anyone with ill intentions.

Do you have a tonneau cover? Expensive but a much better deterrent.

But put that fire extinguisher somewhere you can grab it quickly if needed. Adrenaline is a mfer for fine motoring skills and fumbling a key around can take precious seconds you (or they) might not have. They make under drivers seat storage racks with quick releases.

Those bedside cubbies are great for things like tie down straps, and a bottle jack. That's what I keep in mine ;)

Honestly, I'm not overly concerned with the ratchet straps I keep in mine getting stolen as much as I don't want my kids messing with it. So, I can understand why this would be appealing.

But it's still a plastic door. If someone wants to get in, they will.

Curious on the metal latch.

I got a set that had no bent ones. As I'm bending to have in the same position, I've realized the length is too long.

Did you have to bend or shorten?

Ready to take the cubbies out and just cut a longer slot for the latch to pivot in to.

The ones I ordered from Amazon latched on without any modification, the bent one worked perfectly. All I needed to do was lightly Dremel the home for the can lock to fit.
