As an update, I'm going to stop overthinking my car situation and gut out my wait (along with everyone else) for my Maverick.

Got one of the first 2018 Kia Stinger GT1 in NC. VERY fun car to drive - very quick. Fit and finish were good, nice interior design. Had several small issues but generally fixed OK by dealer. One of the main complaints is dealers not really treating folks special for getting a car at the $45K. Long story short sold it at <20K miles a few months ago for a few $1000 less than I purchased it for. Needed something for my 50 mile work commute that could get better than 25MPG - so the Mav hybrid. I thought the Stinger would at some point in time be expensive to repair with the bi turbo engine. One of my other complaints was a car at this price point not having blind spot monitoring.

We have owned several Kias and had fantastic luck with them. I would absolutely be buying another if the Maverick hadn't caught my attention and desire for a truck I could also use for "normal" driving. All my previous trucks except the first one I owned have been beaters I wouldn't trust to drive hundreds of miles from home.

In order we have owned the following Kias:

-2009 Sedona LX (Traded for a 2012 Mazda5, wish they still made those, it was great)
-2009 Rondo LX (Inherited from my mom; traded on X-Line Soul below)
-2011 Soul Base (Our oldest son is still driving this one, it is approaching 180k miles)
-2013 Soul Plus (Traded on Sorento below)
-2018 Sorento LX (Sold for more than we paid new in November of last year)
-2021 Soul X-Line (Wife's current vehicle)

The only one of the vehicles listed above that ever had any mechanical problems was the 2011 Soul and it has just a couple of very minor things. The first problem was when it had about 95k miles. It was a minor fix and it was covered by the powertrain warranty. I don't recall what the problem was now.

If I hadn't decided on the Maverick I would have replaced the Sorento I sold in November with a Hybrid version. If my Maverick order isn't here by mid-summer I still might.

Old thread but I have also had great luck with Kia/Hyundai and we've owned:

2015 Kia Soul !
2016 Optima Hybrid EX
2017 Kia Soul Turbo
2018 Elantra Sport
2019 Genesis G70
2021 Kia Forte GT
2021 Kia Seltos SX-T (briefly)

We liked them all and none were problematic, though we owned none of them for more than 2 years and most for less than that.

Had a 2015 Kia Soul, mid-level trim. Always enjoyed driving it. Good headspace for me at 6'4", solid MPG, never had any issues. A good, cheap (at that time) grocery getter.

might as well necro this thread lmao

Kia as a brand is alright, though the drivers seem to be quite bad more often than not.
I liked the first gen Soul and really like the Seltos.

For those of us who ordered but are still awaiting a build date and/or delivery of our Mavericks, I have a question:

How many of you on this forum are Kia owners? I'm specifically looking to hear from Kia Soul and Kia Seltos owners on your experiences with your vehicles.
we have a 2016 soul got it new, its NEVER been back to the shop but oil changes, my wife treats it like a truck, thats why we ordered the maverick to replace it,but that may never happen?? 11 months on the 22, now we start over on the 23 we ordered!!

The 2023 Kia Sportage hybrid is stunning! Averages 38MPG and has Kia's 10 year powertrain warranty! It appears to cost a couple grand more than Maverick, but it's fairly loaded with tech, etc.
Sportage hybrid will probably be my next new car, if I don't love the Maverick.
For me, the Maverick is just fun transportation, I already have a truck.
The great thing about the Maverick is that it appeals to nearly everone!
