In addition to the highway test I performed a few weeks ago, I have been in the middle of a city driving fuel efficiency test. Today I report on those results. the test compares the following driving modes; Normal, Eco, sport and Slippery. I hope the table formats are ok. They are not the easiest to format in the forum. I guess I could have tried to attach the excel spreadsheet.
Some of the test specs, to keep it as fair and comparable as possible;
Sport Mode:
Eco Mode:
Slippery Mode:
I am not terribly surprised by any of the results, having read about the driving modes prior to doing these tests. I would have thought that eco mode was a little better than it was, compared to normal mode. I do think we had a bit of a cold snap during the eco mode week, which would have affected fuel efficiency. Plus my Mav still has less than 1000 miles, so it is still breaking in. I may do the next two weeks retesting eco and normal modes, to see if the temperature effect is apparent.
I didn't mind driving in slippery mode, but the braking profile did cause me to have to short stop a few times when I was less than diligent in accounting for the lessened regen braking.
Sport mode is for form and function, not fuel economy.
Some of the test specs, to keep it as fair and comparable as possible;
- primarily the same routes to and from work
- some minor differences in arrival and departure locations or required routes due to one-way roads
- I tried to drive in my normal fashion with little use of the EV coach
- Speeds include everything from 0-65 MPH pretty much every day
- No highways were harmed or even used in the making of this post
- the 65 MPH bit is on a 45 mph controlled access road on which driving is a death sentence
- The 65 bit is not that fast on the way home, which also supports the better mpg in the PM sections.
- Commute times were at about the same times of day
- Since this test was primarily done in March, in Georgia, temperatures ranged greatly from high 20'sF in the early month mornings, to 85F in the late test afternoons.
- All metrics taken from the My Trip info card.
