I don't like screens but the power consumed is trivial. 0.00002%.
I understand the math. But I still think a dial with a small LED bulb uses less power than a giant screen that needs a graphics processing unit of some kind just to present the user interface that interacts with the system that allows me to turn on the fan.

The touchscreen craze is, by far, the dumbest thing yet: there are laws against texting and driving, yet automakers are applying the same technology to the instrument panels of vehicles. Moreover, touchscreens get fingerprints all over them, and require regular cleaning. Finally, although touchscreens can be dimmed at night, does it help to have a huge touchscreen staring you in the face as you drive down the road?

Completely stupid technology. Yet, much as the cupholder craze took hold in the 80's, the "whose got the largest screen" prevails today.
