Yeah i am at 48k miles now and have just come to terms that every winter its back. Every spring it goes away. Sick of wasting my time off work to be told they cant figure it out and be left with no answers.
I thought you had 14000k miles?

Just encountered this on my 2024 Tremor lariat after a 2.5 hour interstate drive. Coming from under the hood and into the cabin through the air. Didn't start till I stopped at my destination though so it's a bit confusing. Anyone ever come to a answer on this? Was. A pretty dry drive. Only a small bit of water here and there, but there was some dry salt on the road. Just adding my experience as to hopefully add to this issue and see if we can find a solution.

Went out and looked again under the battery for fluid and found a big pool of liquid. Any thoughts?

That looks to me like transmission fluid from the vent on top of the transmission case. Unfortunately there's no dipstick to check the fluid level. That's done via a plug on the side of the transmission case - I think you can see the plug through the drivers side wheelwell. IIRC there's two plugs, the lower of them is the drain and the upper one is the fill, although the drain may very well be on the bottom of the case and not the side. I've slept since the last time I looked under mine 😀

Edit: so much for memory, LOL. The procedure to chech the fluid level is a PITA and requires removal of the underbody skid plate allowing access to the plug on the tranny to check the level.

Since it's a 24, I recommend a trip to your dealer to get the issue documented for warranty purposes.

I had my 22 checked for transmission oil level 2 weeks ago (it smells burnt rubber on cold weather every 1-2 weeks) and they removed 700ml of oil. At 50 000km they informed me that the oil is due to be replaced they told me that those transmission are all the same about oil life and they recommend to replace oil at 50-60 000km. I asked for a oil sample and it was very dark you can barely see through and the red color is almost not visible anymore.

I see two potential source for the rubber smell. 1- the catalytic converter may have tendency to partially clog when idle at low temperature and this results in the catalytic converter to heat up a lot and clean up until the next cycle of partial clogging 1-2 weeks later.
2- the transmission doesn't work well under cold weather and either the rear wheels engaging clutch slip slightly under cold weather (instead to stay open) or there is another clutch slightly slipping under cold weather.

I just sold the Maverick for an electric Kona, love it so far, no more gas stations. Then i cannot tell if the reduced transmission oil level helped or not the rubber smell. My 22 never catch fire for 2-1/2 winter smelling burnt rubber.

Took it to the shop and they said it was that the transmission was over filled and they drained it a bit and topped it back off. Haven't had time to run it too hard and see if it happens again.

I’m having this exact same issue, almost 30k miles. Never had it happen before just started this winter. I live in upstate NY so it’s cold and snowy. I don’t see any obvious leaks or other issues and it doesn’t happen every time however it seems to be more intense and frequent recently.

Just adding that I'm also having this issue, mostly so I get notified in case anyone figures it out and posts in this thread. I also peeled a half burned sticker off my resonator with no improvements, but when I do my next oil change I'm planning to poke around to see if I see anything, as unlikely as that seems to be at this point.

I haven't encountered it again since they fixed my transmission fluid levels. But maybe I just got lucky. Dealership did it for free too for what it's worth.

The other weekend I crawled underneath my truck and could find no leaks, CV boots were good, etc. All there was is salt build up on the exhaust. I’ve lived in the salt belt my whole life and never had any issues with a smell from salt.

One thing I noticed is under the hood, one of the drive belts looks different than the other, and it looks like the smooth side has significantly more wear than the other. It’s the belt that goes around the tensioner and alternator I think. Could there be an issue causing the belt to slip and make the smell? I can look into it more this weekend but seems like a likely cause.
