Really started thinking about a new vehicle in December, saw an XLT at a local dealer, stopped in and had a seat in it. I did not drive it as I was in a hurry but was impressed. Then I started searching around, found this forum and looked at many reviews and videos. I really like the idea of a hybrid, the mileage and range. I know I am not the target market, ie I am a senior and really will not use the bed much however I like the size and versatility. Obviously I read about the long wait times and was preparing for the idea I may have to wait for the 2023 models. However I just did a quich search within 150 km of Milton, Ont and have found 9 XL Hybrids in various colors and ranging in price from $27,995 to $30,820 including the $2,095 fees. Doesn't appear to be any "extra" market adjustments added on at all. The range in price all seems to be various installed options.

So why does there seem to be so much angst over finding one? There are even more non hybrids but there some hybrids unless these dealers (9 in all) are just advertising these to get people to come in, then upsell.

Call and see if there not already peoples orders. Also I heard that Canadian dealers can not Market Adjust like they do in the USA.

Don't think so as there are some that say they are not for sale. I am aware that dealers here can't sell for more than MSRP but they do try to upsell extras, extended warranty's etc. I will call on Monday and confirm.

That's not representative at all of current inventory onsite. I went to a dealer that supposedly had 6, but only one was physically on the lot. It was an order by a customer...barely spent 24 hours on the lot.

According to a poll on this forum, 33% of the respondents are 60+. Seems older folks are very much in the market for a Maverick.

Also I heard that Canadian dealers can not Market Adjust like they do in the USA.

There's currently a class action lawsuit in Quebec against 220 car dealerships alleging overcharging by dealers. That's pretty much every car dealer in the province.

fords website search isnt accurate unfortunately. Things have been on there forever but they havent been available for a long time.

I wouldn't put much weight into what is listed on the dealer sites. When I placed my Maverick order in November there wasn't a single new vehicle on the lot or show room that didn't have a "pre-sold" tag hanging in the front window.

There's currently a class action lawsuit in Quebec against 220 car dealerships alleging overcharging by dealers. That's pretty much every car dealer in the province.

Best I can tell some items on that lawsuit won't go anywhere, but I'm not familar with the laws in Quebec though. Some of those fees simply are not illgeal. I'm not aware of any laws in Canada that prevent dealers from charging the Freight fee, that come from Ford. If they are trying to sneak in extra ones above that, don't pay. Financing fees? Those come from the lender (Bank/Ford), not illegal as far as I know. Document/Dealership fee? Legal as far as I know. Doesn't mean you have to pay them.

That said, many others are bogus fees that you should not pay, but illegal? Not that I'm aware of, but that may depend on what province you are in.

I think the argument is that in Quebec, if you advertise a purchase price, it has to include any and all fees except taxes. Dealers cannot add on any fees (other than options you choose) that weren't advertised and then tell you they are mandatory.

And yes, freight and air tax are "legal fees" for example. Ford Canada's website includes all these fees, so that's not an issue:

But if a dealer takes out an ad in a local rag and omits them, showing you only the base price as a come-on...then they are considered illegal when tacked on after the fact.

I think the larger issue is all those admin, document, prep fees and the like that dealers like to slip in just before you sign.

I called about every dealer in Ontario and some in Quebec, roughly 140 in stock Maverick according to inventory, and only 1 actually existed to buy (but not actually built).

The inventory means nothing.
