No idea why other than maybe "assume" battery related cost/supply? Off the top of my head can't think of anything else that could be volatile in the hybrid platform. But why not in the higher trims? Seems a lot at this point in the production cycle imo. Who knows.......
The trim for the lariat is sitting in the warehouse and needs to be moved. Hence push people towards the higher price point.

It's still a popular truck, especially the XL and XLT trims. As long as there's demand and almost no competition, the price is going to keep creeping upwards. The only way it's going to stop is if people slow down their Maverick buying. Or a viable competitor drops. The Santa Cruz doesn't count, it's not selling near the numbers of the Maverick. In fact, the Maverick still starts cheaper than the SC. Even after all these price increases.

If there is any truck out there that would take me away from the Maverick it is a Honda Ridgeline and that is going to go for $44-46k before any discounts so Maverick has plenty of room to grow pricewise.

I am very hopeful that the next-gen Ridgeline will debut a hybrid drivetrain. The Odyssey is the last remaining minivan that doesn't come in Hybrid form and it is because Honda uses a series hybrid set up and would need a 250-300 lb ft electric motor and increased battery size to accomplish it. Their current hybrid drivetrain is already taxed in the CRV.

That's probably what's holding them up on the Ridgeline hybrid too. That's going to add a lot of weight and lower payload significantly, which is important in a truck. Not to mention make it more expensive.

It’s not just the XLT’s and XL’s. I built out my Lariat AWD was $39,670 with Azure paint & 4K towing being the only additions. Same build now is $40,125.

Ridgeline has impressive payload too (1500+).

Honda has to have something in the works for the Odyssey, which would port right over to the ridgeline. Not sure what it is because they have been married to the series hybrid technology for decades, and it works well in small vehicles (I actually prefer the driving dynamics over the Ford/Toyota parallel system) but falls apart on heavier or larger vehicles.

Replacing the 3.5L and 9spd with a 2.5L and large electric motors wouldn't hit weight too hard but the battery, which would need to be bigger to handle the larger electric motor - at 2kwh+ would cause some issues.

They could ditch the spare tire and put the batteries in that spot. That spare tire is a pain to get to anyway, especially with a load in the bed.

Pushing people to Lariat even harder!

EDIT: Also here comes the chorus of “it’s only a $20k truck” comments.
Lariet is up $155! Much better deal.

I test drove a new Santa Cruz when we were waiting for my daughter's Kona to be ready, and it drove like crap. It felt like a toy car with a rubber band engine. I'm joking a little, but it's ride was nowhere near as smooth & quiet as the Maverick's. It had more bells & whistles, but it didn't feel nearly as sturdy as the Maverick.

Anyone else test driven a SC? What did you think?

Well, I can say my Mav brought Oct 2023 did not cost $20k.
Nor mine purchased in 2022. I got an XLT Hybrid with very little extra and paid $26k out the door.

I ordered my '25 Maverick in August and paid $32,990. I just built one with the exact same stuff, and it's $34,465! $1,500 more just 6 months later?!?! I get that they raised the price by $445 (the base is actually $700 higher than my August order), but this is $1,500 more!!!

AND WHAT THE CRAP IS AN ACQUISITION FEE"!?!?!? This wasn't on my order in August, but it sure is there now. I mean, I'm already paying the $1,595 to get it from Mexico to NC and $700 for documents to be filled out. What other acquisition needs to be done? Are they charging another $700 for me to drive on their lot and pick up my truck????

I've been thrilled with my last 3 purchases with Ford (2 Mavericks & my wife's Bronco Sport), but I'm starting to feel about car dealerships like I did before I got my '22 Maverick.

My sympathies. I might have to go back to buying used trucks when my '25 gets worn out.
