My search to purchase a Maverick on the lot without an outrageous mark up began New Year’s Day I was scanning this forum daily since October and found some great insight on Ford site inventory search, car gurus, and auto trader.
I was open to any model, drivetrain, and color without a mark up over $2500 nationwide. Autotrader and Cargurus were set to these filters for search. The generic emails both sites created casted a wide net on inquiries.
My time per day on generic emails for new listings was 1 hour. I always included “Please call me only if the vehicle is on the lot for purchase or an order cancels with my max mark up listed” I would occasionally get the would you like to place an order Voicemail or a sales person thinking they had the vehicle by mistake.
6 days later, I had an xlt at Auto Nation that was 300 miles away become available. Mark up was 1500$ and I began the purchasing process. Submitted loan app and was approved. Told by Sales person that final paperwork would be sent over at 8 am. 8:15 am an apology call was received that the vehicle was sold.
6 more days go by with similar calls/emails. I receive a call for an Xlt on the lot with a 3k mark up. Sent my info and told the dealer my previous experience. Sales person calls back and offered to place a deposit of $500 with a guarantee the truck is mine tomorrow.
Phone rings and I tell the gentleman to hold. A cancelled order just happened and an XL Hybrid comes available 800 miles away. Let this dealer know of my approval and to send me the contract if there was no mark up. $1500 mark up and a $500 deposit later I was on a plane to pick up the Hybrid.
Call it luck or Persistence? Worked out great and had a new hybrid 14 days later in the range I was willing to pay for mark up. I share this insight with hopes that a mav lover gets their ride sooner than expected!
Here’s a few pics of my progress! Thank you to Maverick Truck Club members!
