My order came in after 10 months, should I accept it even with $995 dealer fee?

Thanks!

We agreed to financing 1% above what we "locked in" at so whatever. We waited a year and a half, we want our truck. If it was 5% more maybe not.

Here in Illinois, it's called a "Document Fee" and is capped at $303 and a few pennies, with an annual increase tied to inflation. $995 is a bit on the high side, but not uncommon in some states, including Florida. You may be able to negotiate a lower amount, but it's not going away completely. Count yourself lucky there's not a bunch of other bogus fees including a market adjustment and worthless add-ons being piled on.

The 5.5% interest rate really isn't all that bad in today's market. Everyone is freaking over it because interest rates have been artificially low for so long, but this is actually more the norm. Worse case, you take the loan, and pay it off immediately. Tell them you'll do the loan if the cut the dealer fee in half. Then just pay it off next month.

They have you right where they want you. That is what dishonest dealers do. First, if you ordered last year, they should honor the order sheet pricing since there was an increase 3-4 months ago. Second, they are just making extra money with their almost $1K fee. Third, they are hoping you walk away so they can add another $5K-$8K to it when you do. You will get all kinds of answers from forum members, but I can make it very simple for you. It is your money and YOUR decision alone. Do you want and need the truck, and can you afford it and are willing to pay this amount? If the answers are yes, then buy it. If no, then walk away. Just keep in mind that if you choose not to buy it, then try to find one elsewhere, you will pay $5K or more. Just looked at two on local dealer website that have from 8K to 14K miles on them and are marked up used over $12K above MSRP. One is a hybrid and the other is an EB. Good luck in making your choice.

You are in FL. Dealer fees used to be $699 and then increased to $1000. Most of the dealers also charge electronic filling fees around $200. I think the fees are about right for Florida. Some dealers will add cheap floor mats for $250 even on a car with all weather floor mats.

I will try negotiating taking the financing if they reduce the dealer fee. They do have a small fee for paying it off before 6 months. What's the difference between paying it off immediately and just buying it outright with cash? See attached fee for early payment.

I am super cheap, this is my first vehicle, but I do have 50k saved right now. The maverick fits my needs (mountain biking, maintaining house, two big dogs, commuter), and appears to be one of the cheapest options.

I guess I am just looking for confidence that I am getting an okay deal.

Agreed it seems pretty standard for Florida, which I've read has the highest dealer fees in the country.

I think you just gave the answer. It fits your needs and you can afford it. Keep in mind there is NOTHING else available in this price range that will do what you just listed above. My approach would be to get mad, get over it, get the truck and over the next few years realize you spent an extra $10 a month to have fun. You nailed it with the pups. We have 4 small ones and the Maverick was worth it for them. Those rascals love the Mavericks. They all have their own beds and each one knows where they get. Happy Mavericking my friend.

I believe you will find it difficult to argue the dealer service fee, although that seems high. If you do buy it outright, I would think you could go to the tag agency yourself and save the $199 electronic filing fee. I am not familiar with FL, but is seems strange to me that the registration fee is a flat $500. Unless you know this is standard, I would check on the "real" registration fee. It may be $500, but a quick phone call would verify that. Good luck; enjoy the Maverick!!

Thanks!

My 2023 order shows an accessories charge for window tint and some other thing but they removed it when I refused to accept it. There is also a $489 doc prep fee which they said would be reduced when I transfer the tag from my ‘22. If this is your first vehicle I would go for it because you will love it and have no regrets.

I'm going to call my local tag agency and see if I can do anything about the electronic filing and registration fees. Thank you.

You are getting a decent deal.

I sought out X-Plan (and a dealer who would accept it) that forces dealers to cap their DOC fee at $100. These fees are whatever they can get, subject to some state laws.

It is still a reasonable upcharge, and the interest rate is decent for these days. Investigate qualifying for X-Plan for your next Ford...and a dealer who agrees to accept it...then you won't have this sort of "doc fee" surprise which is just dealer profit.

I generated a PIN for x plan and they told me that I can't stack price protection and x-plan. The price protection I have is for $500, so maybe he is lying to me?

Is it up to the dealer if they want to accept xplan on this custom order Maverick or can I call Ford corporate?

Like you said maybe they can choose whether they will accept xplan though.
