First-off, let me say I'm pretty handy when it comes to automotive wiring, but I've over-complicated my last install and I'm not sure where to go from here.
I'm installing a set of DD SSC2 ditch lights, but instead of using their supplied 3-way switch, I'm using a pair of these: APIELE 16mm Latching Push Button Switch 12V DC On Off Black Shell with LED Angel Eye Head for 0.63" Mounting Hole with Wire Socket Plug Self-Locking (White/Black Shell): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific because they're a much nicer looking/operating switch.
The plan is to operate both functions separately; one switch for the backlight and one for the main beam, which automatically over-rides the backlight through DD's circuitry in the lights. I wired the switches so the LED comes on when the switch is activated (SSC2s "on"). When I tested the functionality, it looks like I'm getting "back feed" through both switches. When I turn on the backlight switch, both switches light-up; when I then turn-on the main beam switch, both switch LEDs turn-off, but the main beam does light. If I turn off the backlight switch first, then turn on the main beam switch, everything works properly.
Do I need to wire-in a diode someplace, and if so, how/where?
Thanks in advance.
Mike
