Wireless phone charging without much modification. Works great!

I’ve lost the video, but a fellow put a video up describing how he mounted a cell phone charger below the tray to allow wireless charging. I ordered a wireless Qi charger to be installed this way, but it did not work on arrival. On doing some more looking, Amazon had a thin charging pad https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D9P61QGJ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title . All you need to do it drop the charging pad in the tray. I ran the power to a seven-in-one cigarette lighter adapter that I wired into one of the switched fuses using a fuse tap https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CZ943ZFY?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .

Leave it to a HAM, well done. I hope it works better than the factory charging pad in my Lariat. That thing was more effective as a hot plate. I chose to use fuse position 18 to power my dash cam instead. I'll never miss the pad.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. The Lariat charging pad isn't quite useless, but it's pretty close. If I don't use the phone while driving, it will trickle in some charge, but if I'm running Waze and either Spotify or Libby for audiobooks (which I always do while driving), it has a hard time keeping up. That and the fact that it takes so long for the infotainment system to connect to my phone, even when it's plugged in, is very frustrating to this former Honda owner who previously enjoyed nearly instantaneous connectivity.

Same! My 23 Lariat wireless charger is pretty useless. I am going to search to see if there's a way to replace it... although this option may be easier.

Why did you need the fuse kit? My truck has a cigarette lighter, could I just use that?

I wanted the power to be on to the charger only when the ignition was on. I believe the lighter jack is on all the time.

Ah that makes sense. I'll have to do some testing. Thanks!

Steve, the 12 volt outlet that is low in the center counsel below the heater control isn't powered all the time, although it is set for a long period of time before shutting off, when stock. I changed mine using Forscan to time out 1 minute after shutting the truck down. I did this so my dashcam wouldn't be running after I exited the truck, as I have it plugged in to that outlet.

It wasn't hard to change, if you have Forscan and a cable.

12 volt port by the USB inputs is only on when the truck is on

On my 3 hour trip to chicago, I spent 2 hours moving the phone around to get it to charge after every little bump or turn knocked it off the charge...

That 12v port is time delay off. If anything plugged into it is ON it will stay on for up to 90 minutes or until the 12v battery drops to 12.1 volts along with the 12v flex bed circuit. Leaving something plugged into it can cause battery save mode leading to deep sleeping!
ETA: if nothing is plugged into it and on the port will turn off with key off. The manual recommends nothing is to be left plugged into it.

Yeah I forgot that the factory setting is something like 90 minutes, I changed it in forscan to power off on the truck is off. Pretty sure the 12 volt port only stays on for like 10 minutes after the truck shut off and the drivers door opened.

My cigarette lighter is, in fact, on after I turn the ignition off. The power is properly supplied from a fuse that goes off with removing the key. You don't have wires dopeying up the works. Everything is in the glove box. It is a much cleaner installation.
