Wire coating possible issue

I've never heard of this before but electrical wiring covers are now soy based and a possible source for rodents looking for food.

My friend has a 2021 F150 hybrid that has encountered this issue. Two months ago, his truck wouldn’t start. Battery cables were chewed completely. Cost to repair was like $900! He and I recently installed a battery operated rodent repeller to see if it will work on his F150 and my Maverick.

where on truck did you install it and what brand?

I placed it on this flat surface at the back and this was the brand. Keep in mind that I have no idea if it will work but I thought it was worth a shot.

After the damage the squirrels did to my Raptor I installed (2) of that exact brand (shown above) on either side of my engine bay. They emit a random light pattern along with a sound. I also zip tied (2) bundles of dryer sheets in the same area close to the firewall. No problem since installing them and I now use them in my new TRX.

That’s good to know that someone has used this brand. I am trying to be proactive to avoid damage. Sucks that your Raptor was damaged!

Rodents have been known to chew wires long before they started using soy as a product. I wonder if there's any stats backing up that this change actually increased the amount of electrical wire attacks.
