If you live in a snowy climate and put your Wipers in the upright position then start your Maverick the wipers snap down after making contact with your hood edge. This can scratch the paint on the hood edge. A solution l found was to get some door edge trim and install it on the point of contact between the hood edge and the blade arm.

as it states in the manual:

REPLACING THE FRONT WIPER BLADES
Note: For vehicles with a service position, make sure the windshield wipers are in this position before proceeding.
Note: You can use the service position to provide easier access to the wiper blades for freeing them from snow and ice.
Note: Switch the windshield wipers off before switching the ignition off.
Make sure your vehicle is off before beginning this procedure.
1. Move the wiper blades to the service position.
Note: To place the wiper arms in a service position, switch your vehicle on in accessory mode, switch on the wipers and switch your vehicle off when the wipers are at their highest position.
Note: Do not manually move the wiper arms to the service position unless the wiper path is obstructed by snow or ice

Try lifting them when the truck is running. Won't let you do it. Incredibly stupid "feature".

I used to clean my windshield sometimes during bug season before taking off and after getting home by spraying the washer fluid and then using a towel - because the wipers would just smear the bug guts and streak. The wipers would activate but do nothing because they were up in the air. Can't do that in the Maverick. If you lift the blades and hit the washers it does like you mentioned and comes in contact with your hood. I can't say that I've ever felt the need to run them without putting them down manually in your situation, but I do hate how the hood is setup in our trucks.

Mine also had the "flutter" which I had to fix. There was so much space around the entire hood I ended up using a sealer even around the sides. Every time I would go to a car wash the entire engine bay would be soaked - and that was without the underbody stuff. Some leakage is expected but it was an incredible amount.

But a couple of us on the forum have tried to put something in the areas the wipers come in contact with the hood to prevent chipping. One method is a pad directly on the wiper arm and another is a rubber strip along the hoods edge. Mine was pretty badly chipped from the previous owner so I used the rubber strip. Obviously not something I noticed initially because it's such an odd uncommon issue. We are certainly blessed...

One solution my dad always uses is having a bottle of vehicle window washer in a squirting bottle; not a spay bottle. I think the stuff is a tougher soap, rather than standard stuff that goes into the window washer reservoir. That would work, he would squeeze some of it on the window that way and then used the wipers. Worked really well in winter with salt covered roads when the windows would get caked with it and the wipers wouldn't remove it with the vehicle sprayers and wipers. For the tough stuff I keep a vehicle window squeegee in the truck.

Our Dads had some great solutions. No pun intended.

I do this as well. In summer I buy distilled water because it's cheaper. But in my army days, poking a hole in the top of a plastic bottle for a sprayer was the solution to clean windshields (and... Uh... Quick showers lol). I have some bottles in the garage just for that, even though I have actual spray bottles too. Old habits die hard. I also use that distilled water to clean the inside of the windows. Less streaks ;)

But yea, usually a couple bottles in the cab and I just dab some on a towel that I also carry in cab. Still, being able to just do a quick spritz with the flick of the sprayer lever in cab after lifting the wipers was nice.
