My local dealer requires a $500 deposit for orders. For those that have been through this, if the order gets delayed, would I be able to cancel and get a refund or am I locked in and have to wait even if it's a long period like 6-12 months or more?

Welcome!!!
That's a perfect question for the dealership you entered the agreement with.
Most would refund it...but again ... it is a per dealership thing .. not Ford MFG.

Entirely dependent on the dealer. I have one $500 deposit I’ve been waiting on for over 500 days. They did say I could cancel anytime before it goes into production

Great posts so far, I would make sure it is in writing and a manager not the salesman sign it. Similar to giving an offer, it doesn't mean anything tell approved usually it states this somewhere in the contract (buyers order).

I agree with the others, just make sure its refundable in writing by management. Also, in case you may not be aware, supposedly the MY25 will be a refresh year with some changes/improvements to interior/exterior. I'll make a "wild guess" and assume MY25 order banks will open somewhere around july. Just a thought.....

Many dealers do not charge a deposit at all. Mine didn't.
Shop around.
