Im not a big fan of big wheels and low pro tires. Every car I've owned with them end up with bent wheels, a side wall buldge and/or an overall uncomfortable ride on anything but the smoothest roads. I plan to buy a set of wheels and tires for my XL and am strongly considering going with 16s with 235/70R16s so long as they'll fit. So with all of that said, does anyone know if 16s are even an option?

Me also, 70's much better choice of tires with durability.

Yep! Just make sure you find 16" wheels with similar dimensions to the existing wheels - 7 in width, 37.5 mm offset.

Thinking the same on picking up a set of winter tires/wheels as the 16" are cheaper.

Any updates on this thread?
Will 16" wheels clear on the Maverick? How about 15's?

I got some 16” steelies from my focus in my shed, it might not be this weekend but next, I’ll try them on my Maverick.

I tried a set of 16x7.5 +42 wheels and the inner diameter of the barrel didn’t clear the front caliper. Some 16s will work but I would test fit before committing money to the set.

Seems like someone posted one that would fit but when I looked them up they were only rated for 900 or 1000 lb load. So we're sheet metal

Finally got to trying the 16” steelies in my shed, I didn’t buy them new so I’m not sure of the offset, all I could find is that they are 16x6. From the looks of the rims, they are very positive, maybe +50ish.
Here is some photos of how tight the clearance is.

Wow, That looks tight!
Are going to run them to see if they touch at all? Might want to stay off of gravel roads.

Unfortunately, they are too tight for my comfort. Gonna have to sell them and put the money towards some 17” steelies…

You may want to try them with a 6mm spacer to see if you then have enough room. Steel wheels being much thinner than allows, with the spacers, should be no problem, maybe even an 8mm.
