This is a question that could ponder upon many individuals due to the vast price range spanning +$23,000 to +$40,000. This is a very large window leaving the Maverick more and less compelling depending on price.

When does it make sense? I believe it has no competition under $30k. Especially when pairing with the hybrid. You’re going to get better or equal mpg compared to gas savors like Honda civic. You get practicality of a truck bed. Makes little projects simple to load materials for. And you get king resale values of a truck. And the interior is tastefully designed considering budget friendly price. To me, nothing competes under $30k. Keep in mind, we are talking about brand new rather than used market for vehicles.

When does the Maverick begin to become less compelling. It begins so at $30k-$35k. The vehicles in this range have luxury like interiors available. Big improvements for tech and speakers. In general, creature comforts begin to become more vastly available and even standard. I believe the maverick in this price is still desirable though. But in a different way that requires the details. For example, still great mpg and very easy to park and maneuver due to size. Truck bed is still nice for suburban home owner use. Still not a lot of truck options in the price zone if this is what someone wants. Sure, now you can get a mid size truck, but you’re not getting it 4x4 under $35k. Still okay options available. But competition and expectations are defenately heating up. This price range also opens the door to a decent size crossovers like the Kia Sorrento.

I believe the Maverick loses most of its compelling appeal at $35k and up. I can see why many would still choose it though. But there are a lot of draw backs. At this price, you’re still getting a very plastic interior. Parts are not fitted great to begin with but its ignorable at the lower prices. I no longer think thats acceptable at this price. Leather seats are not impressive. Seats are very narrow even for smaller individuals. And no nice stitching work on the seat. Now you could consider an SUV. Or you can easily get a mid size truck with 4x4. Ultimately, in my opinion, when starting to consider a fully loaded model for any vehicle, its best to move to the next model up at base trim. High trims have higher percentage of deprecation than the lower trims. And ultimately, the vehicle was built on an affordable platform. I cant see paying near or over $40k for a vehicle that starts out at $23k. I cant see it. Especially when there is still soo much plastic. Yes I said it again. The high trim levels is where the automotive manufacture makes the most money. And for good reason, they are not worth what they are marked up. I am most often under whelmed by these loaded out models in general. Most do not have an appearance or feel to match their price.

I will end with this. The Ford Maverick is a fantastic vehicle at the end of the day. But the perspective of how great it is, deeply depends on the price tag. My perspective of the vehicle changes with the price. It’s a bargain or steal at some prices and possibly a questionable choice at others. Ultimately, the maverick seems as if it will have a cult following same as the tacoma does. Thanks for reading.

That's a cool web page. Can you share the link?

For the OP, thanks for sharing. Nice writeup. I'd argue that the Maverick is a highly conventional, highly boring, and highly utilitarian automotive appliance. It won't take too many years for it to become just like the last generation Ranger (I owned two). The Maverick is that cheap ride you see everywhere, highly discounted (in time), and absolutely NOT a cult car. Because it's the pest control guy's truck. The pest control guy's truck never becomes a cult car.

For me, the value sweet spot was an XLT Tremor with a SIBL and the free CMS. I originally was going to get an FX4, but then the Tremor came out and it was only another $2200 to upgrade and get all the awesome Tremor goodies. I was just under $32k before tt&l. I couldn't be happier. :like:

Definitely still compelling at 30-35k. What truck can you get new for that that's not a 4x2?
I agree that in high 30's you can get more truck in the low to mid 40s and might as well go for those.

I'm 55 and commute 120 miles a day so I'll gladly pay for the Lariat comforts at 37k+. Just ordered my hybrid today!

I somewhat agree with this. As I have said elsewhere, the magic of the Maverick is the design, along with its size. Ford made a VERY useful small package, inside and out. My truck stickered at $34k, and I got it for $29k a year later. At that price, because of the cleverness and utility, I can easily forgive the interior materials that are far below what you get in a Corolla, and the complete lack of sound deadening and "closure" trim pieces throughout the truck (looking at you, leaky left taillight).

I think beyond $35k you can get a lot of cool gadgets tacked on, but ultimately it is all still attached to the same budget-minded chassis, and still built by our hermanos in Hermosillo. I think *I* would have buyer's remorse in a $40k Lariat, but I would still see value in the "quirks and features..." That is just me, who lucked into just the right combo of goodies in an XLT Lux. YMMV...

All cars are built over its demand. This is not a good chart for getting across what your looking to. This chart actually mostly shows appreciation mostly. Depreciation is when you lose value on your initial amount spent. That chart is focusing when Mavericks were selling over sticker. Average showing a peak of $41k while holding out mid $35k for a large length of time. Most Mavericks built are sticker at $30k and below. So to see still such a high average is great because the average new price would be under $30k. All vehicles depreciate. But trucks and SUVs see the lowest followed closely with the reliability kings. And too many new vehicles sold does not always correlate with resale demand. For example. The f150 is the most sold vehicle in the country. But still has large incentives at end of year. Based on simple logic, you would think resale would be bad because of those new truck incentives. Its not though. Resale is great because the demand for f150s used is greater than they are demanded new. This is why trucks and suvs hold value so well. There is a larger group that cant buy them new and have to wait for used.

I enjoyed your response. I feel at the $40k mark, I would also have buyers remorse. Completely agree. But at my $25k, I am in love.

I dont blame you. Tremor sounds more logical if it was a bit more.

Good for you, I'm very happy with my Lariat, much happier than with the XLT I had prior.

Do you need a hug, you basically posted the same novel a month ago.

When good mid size trucks are over $50k... the Maverick starts looking pretty secsi. Sorry, but if I'm paying over $40k for something it better be loaded. And it would have been just 5 short years ago. When I was considering a $50k vehicle, it had real leather, was full size, and tons of capability. So for $30-40k currently, the Maverick makes a lot of cents for people for what they actually get. Still quite a lot to be desired IMHO, but the bean counters won't let us have nice things for too cheap. Personally, I'd rather add all the options and not think twice about it.

Plus, the fleet options are clearly desirable. The poverty Mav's check the basic boxes.

TL;DR: All other trucks on the market are getting ridiculous.

Not saying its not compelling at that price. Im saying its starting to lose its compelling appeal at that price. You can get the ranger base at $33k. So options are starting to open. And at your $37k, I believe with the amount of driving you do is compelling lol. Your gonna spend a lot of time in that vehicle. Congrats on your order!

Thanks! Have a terrain EB Lariat now and ordered Lariat hybrid in Azure Gray with BAP. I really don't like the BAP wheels so thinking of changing to stock wheels/brown interior.

I must be compelling to you lol? And no. I wrote about likes and dislikes last time. But thank you for reading and commenting. Congrats on your Lariat. Ultimately, it’s a good vehicle.
