What is the real world consequence of '24 Tremor having 1228lb payload?

I was QUITE surprised to find out the payload was less. I just found this out and am still trying to get educated on what the implications are and how much towing is reasonable. Oddly, the page my dealer sent me doesn't have the GCWR.

From what I understand there are a couple of things limiting the Tremor's payload and towing capacity, a smaller radiator to accommodate the special front bumper used to improve approach angle and softer springs for more off road compliance/capability. The smaller radiator is kind of a double whammy because the PTU on the Tremor is liquid cooled as opposed to air cooled on all other AWD Mavericks so if yourcoolant temps skyrocket due to hauling more than the payload or tow capacity there's a good chance you'll cook your PTU as well. Honestly, if you really need more payload or tow capacity just get an FX4, it'll probably do 95%+ what a Tremor is capable of. TFLT did a test of a base model Bronco Sport and they were convinced it wouldn't handle their offroad course because of the non badlands AWD system and yet it crushed every single portion of their test track. The standard AWD system is quite capable.

This is surely driven by the suspension which is longer travel and softer spring rate, which is great offroad but decreases the bed payload capacity. The real world consequence of lower payload is that when/if you're heavily loaded, you will hit the bump stops sooner than a different Maverick.

If you're wanting to haul mulch, concrete mix, bricks etc, any Maverick owner should do the math and know if they're about to load 2,000 pounds, 1,500, 1,000 etc. It's lazy not to. And then as a Tremor owner you can haul like 4 fewer bags of Quikrete. If you were using the vehicle commercially and loaded the bed full daily it could be an issue. As a homeowner, I doubt it would be an issue.

I have had ours loaded up and it took quite alot of space to get it there. Also It has handled our rough road and rutted driveway with 12-1300lb loads just fine. I have loaded up a 2000lb trailer with a mountain of trash and recycling a full foot taller than the truck itself(with topper). It still beats out alot of offroad models like the Tacomas and their 990lb rating.

Yes, specifically looking at the weight of Tremor at 3685lb, the Ford doc shows GCWR of 6175, which leaves the Tremor with 2,490lb for combined passengers, bed load, and towing. I can easily see an ignorant owner superseding that.
600lbs of passengers leaves 1890lb for all bed payload and towing. 300lbs of camping gear and that’s 1590lb for a trailer.

I even saw on Reddit or here someone stating a truck can tow its payload limit plus it’s tow limit, GAH!

Just to reiterate my above comment, if you loaded your Tremor with ~2000lb of trailer, you only have 490lb left for total payload which includes your personal butt weight. The more you know 🌈 ⭐

sometimes it is difficult to know the real weight of a bulk load unless the reseller has a scale, especially if it's mulch or anything else that can get saturated with rain.

it's certainly good to be aware and safe, but I personally wouldn't get concerned about being a few hundred pounds over. when towing, I'd be much more concerned about having the proper hitch height and good weight distribution in the trailer than I would being a little heavy.

Tongue weight is around 200lbs at on my trailer usually less.

I rarely have anyone with my while towing a trailer, everyone else is lazy.

Anyways I have had my truck loaded up right to it's max weight. Suspension sag was minimal and I was climbing a mountain on 2 wheels above the tree line without issue. Like I said before, still beats a lot of other off-road trucks payload.

Tacoma TRD is around 1000, the Raptors are 1400, the off-road Chevys are around the same as Tremor, and the TRX is 1300 ish.

I've been pulled over a lot of times for a lot of reasons, but weight has never once come up. There is always wiggle room for what's right on what road at what speeds.

Towing guide with Tremor GCWR (and others) plus more useful info.

2023 Towing Guide
It took me SO LONG to find the one for 2024. Only for the Tremor numbers to be exact same as previous year, which is bewildering to me, I guess the only reason to even have a different year make is for various extraneous bits.
