Looks like a desiccant pack with the non woven on one side and tray on the other. Is it filled with granules/beads?

Some folks Just gotta tear things down,
When I see something like that I give it no thought. I leave it alone.
Ford decided to put it there, good enough for me.

Yes I would agree with that, based on shaking it. I may cut it open and if I do I will report back.

I have seen those in other air-boxes, a carbon pad. I do not think they are emissions required maybe specific states. On the EB with those I have seen they do not hinder any airflow. Fords version of the pine tree air freshener for the CAI??

The way it was positioned in the 2.0 air box, I think it did hinder airflow. Granted, I do not think removing it will be any noticeable improvement to the driver but if I was able to test it scientifically, which I don’t, I bet airflow would be better without it.

Back in my younger days of modding cars, a free mod you could sometimes do was gut an air intake box. Some factory intake boxes would be covered in extra plastic pieces likely for sound baffles and more rigidity.
I was curious to see what the 2025 intake looked like. It’s fairly “clean” no material to really modify or remove. Except what the heck is that for?! My hope is it’s just some sort of sound baffle and removing it would be a free mod to improve air flow. But that may be wishful thinking.
Edit: I removed it! See post later down in the thread.

I drilled holes in my Helmholtz resonator to see if it would change the intake sound. It did a bit (search “holes in my Helmholtz to view that thread).

A few commenters cautioned that it could upset the delicate balance of the OEM airflow programming).

I did not “call BS” on that - but I thought it lol. Removing that EPA mandated carbon vapor absorption pad should not change the airflow much either I’m betting…

Anyway, my Helmholtz Resonator will soon be completely removed when I install the aftermarket S&B Air intake:)

I just read that thread. I would’ve never thought that was a Helmholtz resonator on this engine. Other factory resonators I’ve seen before are very small in comparison. I would’ve just suspected it to be more of a “fresh air tank”. Fresh air tank sounds stupid but I don’t know how else to describe it! 😂

It is just a hollow space. Peeking through the holes, I expected to see baffles or something. Nope, just an empty space.

The holes are taped over now in the hot weather - as I imagine air gets sucked in from the engine bay during high rpm’s?

The Helmholtz Resonator near your tailpipe is minimalistic too.
It works though:)
