I am not sure of how the mileage from a dealership will impact this.... but in general, warranty work must be performed at a Ford Dealer. The exception is if the repair happens when Ford dealerships are closed. Than you can be reimbursed for emergency work (so this would exclude superficial cosmetic repairs, etc.) done at another non-authorized facility.

This is the wording from Ford's warranty and policy manual for dealers:
LABOR PERFORMED AT NON-AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIPS
Reimbursable when:
• The Dealer sublets work to an outside specialty shop.
• Performed on an emergency basis and Ford and Lincoln Dealerships are closed.

So you would have to prove that it was an emergency and that the closest dealership(s) was/were closed at the time you needed the repair.

For "traveling" owners, dealerships can use non-Ford locally available parts to get your vehicle repaired faster in these emergency situations, if waiting for Ford parts would cause a delay.

While you are under 3/36 warranty, you will also have Ford Roadside assistance. This will tow your vehicle to the nearest dealership.
Towing services are available to any qualified Ford or Lincoln Dealer within 35 miles of the disablement location or to the nearest qualified Ford or Lincoln Dealer.

I know this doesn't fully answer your question....I do work with warranty claims at a Ford dealership....but I am in the North East and there are lots of dealers all over, so I don't know about the distance issue. I can't find anything in the manuals about it. I suppose the free tow is how they tackle that issue?

If you choose to go somewhere else when you could have gone to a Ford dealer, you will probably not be able to be reimbursed. But if it happens like on a Sunday and the local/closest dealerships are closed, and you can get it repaired elsewhere, you should be able to be reimbursed easy enough.

Hope that helps a little! Maybe someone with more experience in remote areas w/ fewer dealerships will be able to offer better advice!

I do thank you for your extended response. Maybe the dealers intention was to present a vague position, too bad for the consumer. Since vagueness does present doubt, it appears the owner with the warranty, if finding himself in a location 300 miles from a qualified dealer, if he were in fact a qualified dealer, and maybe the dealer wasn't then, tough luck.

the extra miles beyond the 35 miles, which in the presented scenario would be 265 miles would be paid by the owner.

wonder if a loaner of a car by dealer doing repairs is part of the warranty. allot of doubts about the warranty. again thank you for response.
