Looking to replace a 99 Buru that get's poor mileage and needs a bit of mechanical work. I know it would be more cost effective to put the money into fixing it up, but want to get something new(er) for my wife to drive that has better safety features. Thought about another hybrid but if I'm going to spend the money would like to get as far away from ICE as possible.
Any forum members that have an EV for primary or secondary car I'd be curious what they are driving and thought about owning it.

My wifes previous car was a 2014 santa fe. I was sick of filling the tank every 9 days. Carmax made me an offer i couldnt refuse. Got rid of it and got a 2021 kona ev. Was a lease turn in, had 18k miles. After all the tax incentives at the time and the warranty, i must have paid like $15k for it. Has the ultimate package. I thought cooled seasts would be dumb but im starting to love the feature. I only do lvl 1 charging, with 80% max. Ill do 100 if we need the extra miles for a road trip. 64kw battery at 13cents/kw, full battery at 269 miles. If you need a car for bumpin around town, this thing is brilliant. With the ev and the hybrid truck i save sooo much on gas. I can honesyly say i will never go back to a full ICE.

OP, you might enjoy one of the many BEV enthusiast meets that are held around the country. Locals meet to show their cars and talk to anyone interested. I've been - they are great fun. The owners are friendly and knowledgeable. Hmm, now let me try to find you a link...

I think that's what the stats say. Once you get butts in EV seats, they rarely leave. It happens, but like 90% (I think) stay EV. That said, that's a self-selecting group from the start.

my trophy fake-wife has a '15 Fiat 500e. She bought it maybe 6-7 years ago for $7500 with 35k miles. Now has about 55k.
It's excellent if you live in town and charge at home, even though it has a stated 80 mile range. It gets charged about once a week because it's only used for local running around; we call it the grocery cart. The only maintenance things have been the 12v battery (not the drive battery) and odd stuff like a door latch.

A little cheap EV is great for the uses mentioned above, but your situation has to be right. I think a good rule of thumb is to have at least twice as much range as you normally drive per day. And if you have to rely on charging stations instead of charging overnight in your own garage, be willing to accept that extra time; or judiciously use it. You can use the often FREE chargers at shopping centers or restaurants while you're there anyway.

As for safety, anything that is legally allowed to be sold and used on the highways (not "neighborhood vehicles", which are basically golf carts...) in Merkuh has passed the most stringent safety tests in the world. Most newer vehicles have airbags everywhere and sensors alerting you of objects or eminent collisions you didn't notice, because you were playing with your phone or slapping the kids in the backseat or something. Many have auto-braking. I wouldn't be concerned about safety in a modern vehicle, except for maybe visibility issues because of window and mirror location designs.

Thanks for all the replies! I know there are a bunch of enthusiasts web sites out there but I'd more trust opinions from my fellow Maverick owners.

We are (sort of) looking a Bolt. Don't really drive enough to justify a new one but that may not stop us! I hear you about the electric truck - I don't want to drive something full size and enjoy my XLT Lux too much to consider a stripped down slate.

You bought your Bolt new?

Yes I bought the Bolt new in Jan 2023.

Nowdays if I was looking for a used EV I'd probably look for a CPO to get some warranty coverage.

eg: Hyundai Certified Used Vehicles Details:
* 10-Year/100,000 Mile Hybrid/EV Battery Warranty.
* Roadside Assistance
* Vehicle History
* Powertrain Limited Warranty: 120 Month/100,000 Mile (whichever comes first) from original in-service date
* Limited Warranty: 60 Month/60,000 Mile (whichever comes first) from original in-service date
* Warranty Deductible: $50

It's funny how close new pricing is to some of the CPO's especially for the Bolt.
Here is one close by me 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV Hatchback, 2LT FWD, 17.501 miles, asking $25774. Makes a new Bolt for right around 30K sound attractive.

I’m on my second Tesla Model Y performance as my primary driver. I wanted something to explore AZ without worrying about charging so I bought a 2025 Lariat Hybrid. It’s very comfortable and rides nicely. I’ve taken a couple 1000 mile trips in the Maverick and it’s a great vehicle. Wireless CarPlay for ease of navigation and audio. Probably 32+ mpg on freeways. And having remote start with AC is nice for hot days. I still hop in my Tesla first since FSD chauffeurs me to wherever I want to go, but the Mav is a perfect companion vehicle.

That's like the first few years of Maverick. Used ones with 40k miles were $25k and a new one was $26k.

This year Uncle Sam is going to start forcing me to take money out of my 401K - it's got to go somewhere!
