I missed the boat on preordering a Maverick but called around last month to add my name to several waiting lists in Central FL in case a preorder customer backed out. Veterans Ford in Tampa called today to say they have a Cactus gray hybrid XLT and would I like to buy it to which I said of course! Imagine my surprise when they offered it to me for $37,500! I laughed and told the salesperson how dirty that markup was and I would pass. I totally expected them to mark the truck up but 40% is disgusting. It’s a wonder why people hate car dealerships.

Give all us veterans a bad name. Too bad there's not a legal way to change how they do business. Oh, for the old days in west Texas.

I paid about a 12.5% markup. Seems like a bargain by comparison!

I hope nobody buys it and it just sits until their drugs wear off

I assumed 10% and I would have paid it but 40% is criminal.

I nearly bought a hybrid Escape back in 2008 and just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger because of Ford's reputation at the time. We bought a VW TDI instead because we knew the owner of the dealership here in Tampa. In recent years we've bought a few more VW's even with the "diesel-gate" scandal. The sales manager calls us with a number and we drive over and pick up a car a few days later. They make a little money and it's a painless experience.

Ford got my attention with the Maverick but with things I'm reading here and in other places I'm not motivated to play games with Ford's dealers.

I'll be contacting the VW dealer to get on the waiting list for an ID.4 to be delivered sometime next year. It's a shame because the Maverick was exactly the automobile I've been waiting for. I guess I'll check back in another decade.

Another great example of why I'd rather have a sister in a whorehouse than a brother who's a car salesman.

Veterans has been doing this from day one. They have had 10k and 20k markups for a while now. They are the closest dealer to me and I refuse to use them for anything.

I ordered band bought mine from Brandon Ford. Last I saw, they were doing $2500 mark-ups on any abandoned orders and are honoring MSRP on orders.

Another update: Ferman Ford contacted me about an XL hybrid. They only want $10k over sticker!
