I'v been thinking about getting a dongle but you make a good point.

I can see the advantage for quick directions locally.
But for long trips I would want my phone plugged in because the GPS and screen use up the battery.
I'm going to use this solution. $57 and 15 minutes for wireless charging in an XL. Sold!

Say I get a MA1 and use it to make my Android Auto wireless. What happens when I plug the phone into the second USB connector to charge it? Will it try to communicate with Android Auto using the wired connection and thus create a conflict with the Wireless connection?

I use the dongle FOR long trips where the constant charge and usage can really heat your phone up which is bad on the battery. Get to around 50%, plug it into another port and let it charge back up to around 80 or so.

The SUPER sweet spot is the wireless dongle, plus phone that can do wireless charging, and a wireless charge pad under the phone spot under the radio stack. :)

Use one of the charge only ports. Not a data port

Yes for me, I get a conflict, but not if I plug in the wired connection after the MA1 connects wirelessly.

i use the MA1 Motorola. I love it! The plug and unplug your phone again and again isn't wise. Occasionally, the touch screen freezes up. I unplug the dongle USB A for a second, and it resets quickly.

I recently caught a you-tubey video which claimed you can move the dongle from cah to cah, (Boston accent) just plug it in and your phone to dongle connection is retained. I haven't tried this yet, but seems really convenient if true.

Has anyone had success using a dongle on your Maverick to eliminate the need for plugging your phone in every time you use the truck?
I tried using a Motorola MA1 but could not get it to connect to my phone nor the pickup. while connecting to the phone, it asks for a password. no password is provided with the dongle. I then tried to connect directly by Bluetooth thru the information system on the truck. it does recognize the dongle but refuses to connect. it just goes around and around.
has anyone had success with another brand??
Our Maverick recognizes any phone as soon as you get in the truck without a cord.mine,my wife's and stepdaughters phones automatically sync up .our dealer did this but the procedure should be in the owners manual.

That is just for bluetooth. If you want to use Android auto or car play to have maps and whatnot on your display you must plug in or get a wireless adapter.

You can use the dongle to get Android Auto and the associated apps without having to plug in your phone. . And still plug in your phone if you need to recharge the battery later, on a long trip, using the USB "C" port either in the front ou the rear passenger area.

I use the Carlinkit III for Apple it works great and no cables. $68-75. I stream XM from the App as well. The sound quality is great.

I know this is an old post but I just upgraded my phone, Samsung S23 FE 5G that can do wireless charging. I bought an AT&T wireless charging pad($10 on Amazon) which fits perfectly in the center console area. Now I can charge the phone while using the Motorola dongle.
