new to this truck and to the forum. I have a 24 XLT Hybrid. Since I just got it, was playing around a bit to check different features out. 1 thing i ran into and i'm not sure whether it's my phone (samsung s21) or the truck. I connected a 500gb SSD to the USB-C port (I have alot of music). all works good. Except when I plug in my phone to the other USB port and use Android Auto. All seems to work for 5 or 10 minutes, then my phone disconnects from the truck and I have to unplug and plug it back in. then Android Auto starts up and all good for another 5 or 10 minutes. Any ideas why it disconnects like this? i only have a problem when the SSD is connected. all other times all is good. I've tried adjusting the power settings on the phone, but no luck. wondering if it's just not liking having 2 active devices plugged in at the same time... any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks

Could be cabling or the phone. I have been using my Maverick for over a year with a 128GB thumb drive installed constantly and the phone plugged in often. I use USB-C for the phone and USB-A for the thumb drive. There are some glitches in the system, but for the most part, the Android Auto features work consistently when plugged in. Occasionally I have to unplug and replug the phone or make a phone screen selection regarding USB features.

I have more issues with the music files on the thumb drive being scanned properly and getting playlists to work. It took me several tries to get the playlists working correctly. There have been reports of the infotainment system failing to complete a scan if the number of files exceeds 10,000 or so. I have about 6300 files of MP3 V0 and it completed a scan in about 2-3 minutes usually.

I haven't had this issue in a Maverick but this sounds like a USB power problem. USB port doesn't have enough power capacity to charge phone and use a large SSD.

thanks both. i've tried a couple of different cables so I think that's ok. could definitely be the phone since this is my first auto with AA. might be onto something with the power limit though. I'm assuming that both ports are USB 3 which should give me 900mA at each port. but the specs on the SSD says it can hit a peak consumption between 2 and 5 watts which makes sense. think i'll try a large thumbdrive and see what happens. but thanks for the ideas..

This ☝

Just copy & paste the music into a separate folder on your Android phone. Use a music player app like Pulsar (free - no ads - excellent!) to navigate & play the music. The interface is much better and runs via bluetooth or within AndroidAuto. You can enable auto-play. Or not.

would be the easiest, but unfortunately my phone doesn't have 500gb of free space. i have too much other crap on it. i can always add a USB-C drive to my phone (no SD card slot) for the music, but not a huge fan of too much daisy chaining.

How much music do you really have? I have a 128GB Samsung Fit drive and its not even half full with 6000+ songs. That's not my entire music collection, but it is what I like to listen to in the car. Are you storing music for the car in lossless FLAC/ALAC or something like MP3-V0? To me, anything above V0 (or 320Kbps fixed rate) is a waste for the Maverick with its average sound system and high road/wind noise. BTW, the USB in the Maverick is not 3.x, I believe it is good old 2.0.

A lot of folks here recommend the Sandisk Ultra Fit and I used one of those for almost a year, but I was having issues with the playlists and as an experiment, I tried another thumb drive.

I now prefer the Samsung Fit Plus, which I've been using without issue since August. When I compare the read/write speeds on my PC, the Samsung is much faster using Crystal Disk Mark. Price is roughly the same now for the Samsung. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7PDLXC

This is something I also considered OP might be doing. No need to have a lossless format in the Maverick. Too much road/wind noise in the Maverick to hear the difference in better audio quality gained by using high bit-rate encoding.

my MP3's are all at 320k. my library right now is running about 450GB. FLAC is nice, but my ears aren't really good enough to discern the quality of the FLAC files so lossy formats are fine with me.

USB 2 is limited to 500mA so if that's the case then the problem is power. i've got a couple ideas to get around that. I know the OBD plug has a +12v output pin (pin 16 i think). so if i really need more 5V power, a small 12-5 DC converter would work just fine. Did this on my old VW to power my cameras and a few other accessories that needed juice. But i'll look at the thumbdrive first...

If you have 450GB of MP3, how many files is that? 50000 plus? Does the Maverick actually finish scanning all that in a reasonable time?
Like I said earlier, the Maverick supposedly has issues scanning libraries of 10K files or larger, at least that is what several were reporting back in 2022.

I don't know how they're electrically shared on the ACM board itself, but the ports have completely separate wires and connections.

it's about 90k files and 7k folders. i started small with a 128gb thumbdrive. don't remember how many files, but the drive is close to full. scanning was pretty quick and it all seems to work so far. i'll let it go for a few days and if there's no issues, i'll get a 512gb drive and see what happens. the 128gb drive is formatted exFAT. i'll also try it with NTFS later and see if there's any difference there. I wouldn't think so, but more just curiosity.

per the USB standard, they should be separate power rails
