Hi Folks,

The most obvious accessory omission of the Maverick in Lariat trim is of course the absence of a Vessel Boiling Electric, as equipped in a Challenger 2 main battle tank.

Unfortunately, options in the civilian market are somewhat limited, so the best I could do was this which I picked up today. Appears new in box. Unlike an MBT unit, it can only do single or skimpy double crew ration heating, not 4 at a time. (Can probably fold and jam boil in the bag stuff into carafe, but probably better to pour boiling water into insulated container with lid and close it in with that for a spell.) This will have to suffice, brew kit is a brew kit tho.

I will sometime though, perform some trials between this and the 350W takes half an hour 2 cup coffeemaker I have which could plug in the inverter output.

As a related aside, I was expecting the quality oif Tim Horton's tea to improve with the current demographic running it - and the individual locations - but alas, no. They are my option of last resort, generally only when on road trips.

I *would* love to get a travel kettle I could use in the truck. I'm seriously considering installing an inverter that is actually useful and not just a marketing gizmo...

Not sure if I'll use it on road trips, most of ours don't go very out of the way of major highways where you can find a stop.

Mostly I was planning, "trail head" use, though that's a bit of a misnomer because I can get to a lot of "trail middles" meaning heads off both ways. So go one way for a bit, come back, have lunch and a hot drink, then go the other way. So a day use thing.

Then for supposedly being a simple pursuit, camping gets complicated. Wife reluctant to come unless she can get non-instant coffee. Now we never know soon enough when our free weekends are and all serviced campsites in the bottom part of Ontario get booked up 6 months out. Leaving only dry camp sites, no electric no water. They're also at actual hotel rates now in popular areas. Then worst case Ontario we can have fire bans and boil water advisories. Even wild/bush camping you might be in a fire ban area, wildfire smoke spotters will be on your ass if you test it.

So yeah, a backup to the other 3 ways of making coffee in camp.

Tim Hortons has sucked since it was bought out by a Brazilian investment firm. Why anyone buys that trash is beyond me, just about anything is better.
