Upgraded to 245/60/18. A bit concerned

Without flaming me too much , I just put these on. Obviously these are quite heavy and noticed some struggling upshifting or higher rpm shifts to compensate. I've read up on this size increase and nobody seemed to mention it. I'm actually also concerned with my extended warranty I have through Ford and their willingness to fix say a transmission or cv axle later on with these bigger tires. I just bought these yesterday and I'm considering exchanging them for oem size but keep the all terrain style. Any input or advice would be appreciated.

The new tires are not much larger, really. 20mm wider (10mm per side), and 20 x 0.6 = 12mm larger dia (6mm radius). So you will have less tire clearance but you may never notice unless you are at the extreme limits of tire travel. And they will be heavier.

Your speedometer will probably show a slightly lower speed, and your fuel economy will be reduced a little.

I can't really comment on the warranty implications.

Wider tires will have a higher rolling resistance. This is made worse by the aggressive tread pattern, both will lower fuel economy. So even the same size with this tread pattern will reduce mpg. Braking distances will increase, and you will hear more tire noise. Exactly how much is subjective.

11 LBS per corner is a lot of rotational mass. It looks really good! Are the looks worth the gas mileage loss and transmission hunting?

Personally Id find a lighter A/T tire in that size, or you're next favorite choice in stock size as you stated.

If you use the tire size comparison calculator you can see the differences, which is a wider taller tire. As was noted, the biggest impact is likely to be in MPG's mostly due to the weight difference and more aggressive tread pattern, assuming you had AS radials on there before.

As far as the concern over the larger tires, I'd suggest you email Ford and get a written reply as to this being an issue or not.
I'd suspect it isn't, but having documentation could make a difference if you were to have a problem and get pushback.

OTOH, you may not need to know if the change hits you hard enough in the wallet if increased fuel usage causes you to go to a different tire..

I only drive 6 miles to work so I took the mpg into consideration. I purchased them through discount tire and I believe they have a return window and I would definitely just get a new set in the oem size with them again.

235 is the sweet spot for the Maverick in my opinion. Helps settle down the Maverick and makes it feel more planted without being too much just for the sake of being big.

Discount allows a 30 day return provided there is no excessive wear or damage.
6 miles to work is about 3,000 miles per year so maybe $10 / $12 a month assuming a 5 mpg reduction (pure guestimate) isn't much.
If you take a long trip, different story...
