Hi all - First post, here goes:

I just bought my 2024 Mav a couple of weeks ago and took my first out of town trip recently where I used the built in MavNav. I'm not sure about it based on the fact that the turns are not announced early enough to always be in the correct lane to make the turn. I'm wondering if anyone knows whether I'm missing some settings that could be adjusted to address this or is the answer to just use my iPhone?

Thanks!

Phone apps like google maps or Waze are better for turn by turn. Phone maps are automatically kept mostly up to date - although people had problems finding my house on apple maps, after the County changed my street name & number. Google maps & Waze updated their address data almost immediately. Took apple over 2 years.

Agree for the most part (I've never had an issue with apple maps not being up to date, nor google maps) Plus users will have to pay ford to update the built in navigation - there was a recent thread on this forum where it was $40.00 to get an update on a usb drive from ford and was going to take around an hour to update.... geez

Not sure if this is the place to ask or if I should have opened a new issue, but it is a sort of related question concerning the online map on my 2024 Mav. I was of the believe it is a dumb map, receiving no input based on traffic or accidents. However, back on Wednesday I was on the interstate when it all of a sudden it gave me directions to get off the interstate and follow a road running parallel. About the same time I notice a back up at that exit. Just after the exit I came to a complete stop.... Accident, 4 miles ahead. Took me a half hour to go that 4 miles.

Question is.... Could this "dumb" map system have received information on this accident thru Ford or was it just a coincidence. Never had this happen before on any of the Ford Map systems on my Escape or Edge.

$40 for a USB stick if you are still covered for a free download). If not it's like $150

The Ford Nav is a little to walled garden for me and the cost of updating it not worth it for my own needs and wasn't very good when I had it in one of my previous Ford vehicles. I am one of those guys that like my old Garmin nav for one screen specific to nav while I use the built in screen with Android Auto to run whatever app suites my fancy such as Waze and streaming whatever it is I am listening to. I prefer the extra screen space and dedicated tool that has free updates for the maps. Just a lot more flexible for the way I want to see things displayed, but not for those that don't want any "clutter". I am running the radar detector as well so my dash area is a cluttered mess! LOL

Personally I don't find it all that convenient juggling multiple things on the one screen. Just personal preference.

I have an even simpler question: Does the map that came with my 2025 Lariet come with a Search function? The kind with the simple entry of an address or location nave and, after entering it, the map gives you one or more routes that you can then select for travel/turn directions. I haven't been able to find it if it did. Thanks.

IMO, this is way too many screen & device distractions.

I haven't come across multiple routes to choose from but it does have a screen to enter/search. It even can be used to search for things other than just an address. I used "walmart" just this weekend while out of town and it returned a list of several along with the mileage and drive to to each one.

This weekend was my second attempt at using this system and I noticed that although it doesn't always do the best job of announcing the turns, it does show you an icon in the upper left hand corner of the screen that indicates the distance to the next turn and direction of that turn so you can glance at that to get an idea of what to be ready for.

I agree. I'm very much in the "less clutter is better" camp but to each their own!

As contradictory as this is going to sound. Sometimes purpose built tools are less distraction than messing around with trying to find what you need on a single device/vehicle screen. Specifically navigation. At at glace I can see exactly what I need to see with a dedicated device. The "main vehicle screen" Is for the vehicle specific vehicle things or audio in my case. Sometimes I find it useful to have Waze up, but generally it is streaming audio on the main screen. The distraction to me is when I need something and I have to do something to get to it. It is one of my issues I have with Ford deciding to remove dedicated controls for common access items and put them on the screen. It is very distracting and not helpful at all. Sometimes more is less.

I can agree with your logic on this especially considering the removal of the dedicated HVAC controls in the 2025 MY. I actually leaned pretty heavily toward the leftover 24s because of that. So, yeah, I get what you're saying.

I agree and why I went with the 2024 Lariat over the 2025 XLT I was looking at. I have used the nav once and prefer the phone nav over the Ford for the same reason you mentioned.
I wrestled with the decision on the 2025 because of the change to the controls and putting more stuff on the screen. My Tesla insisted everything is on the screen and it is a distraction more times that I cared to interact with. Thankfully some of the voice commands were useful, but it shouldn't be so complicated. So I am not thrilled with the choices Ford is making to mimic Tesla.

Good to know there is a 'Search' function. Can you guide me to it? Start at the "Navigation" screen? Please pardon my thickheadidness. Thanks.
