Hello, as winter will be approaching, I’m genuinely concerned that my truck will continue to automatically turn the AC on, especially when I’m remote starting TO WARM IT UP in the winter.

My “auto” switch has all 3 lights off, assuming this means off but shouldn’t be so sure with this design… and my remote start is enabled… obviously… but I have it set to “remember last settings” so when I turn off my AC before turning the car off, the AC is automatically back on every time I start the car.

Again, all buttons for auto are off but the truck turns AC on automatically every time and I’m concerned as any normal person would be with winter coming and the truck needing AC on during freezing temperatures.

Thank you!
Sincerely, confused about technology
I guess I'm old school, if the AC light is off, the AC should be off. If it is 70 degrees outside, and I've got the windows open, why should the AC be on! So then I should fiddle with the temp, and auto settings with my hand at the vent to figure out whether it is running or not! So the AC should run to keep the humidity down and defrost the windshield with the windows open!

Your truck setting for remote start climate control sounds like it's set to Auto, not the option for last used.
You can usually tell by the change when you do start the truck from it running in remote mode. Climate control should go back to last used.

For winter then - if still set to auto, it'll probably back off the heat when the air temp looks decent enough - but that may not be hot enough to melt ice or door gaps.
You may need option for last used - and remember to put settings where needed. And point vents best.
Thanks! I'll check.

I've never had a vehicle I've gotten since the 80's that put the AC light on when front windshield defrost mode was selected.

But guess what you could hear on half of them, and confirmed by manual and/or popping the hood on the other half?

AC is on.

So not sure what you mean by old school.

Have you actually felt the AC on when windows were open, and selection of defrost air flow?
Or complaining about an exaggerated idea that is unlikely to happen?
While I could imagine a sensor seeing high humidity with window open, ambient temps would match so the math would say no issues possible.

Absolutely felt AC with windows open. As far as old school (lol) If the light is off, it is off!

No need to get snarky. It sounds like you have a personal problem with the way your truck is designed to work so either live with it or keep complaining.
I’m responding to your snark with common sense. You belong on reddit. Your 2nd reply was also snarky along with your first one. You’ll get the perceived tone you give my guy

Oh boy - here's another one you may not like, just confirmed because I thought I had noticed it before.

When you turn the fan up and have no zone button pressed (upper/lower/defrost) - it is just on upper actually.
If you have it on one of the others and remove that zone so there is none - you'll hear the diverters move it to upper, and only feel it there.

If you put it on lower - defrost is enabled by default - well, I didn't hear the AC kick on so perhaps not defrost, but at least those window vents are used along with lower.

So very different from old buttons too.
Now - seems most back in the day allowed picking defrost along with feet anyway, or just feet, or just defrost - and each was it's own.

Just thought you should know before it gets cooler and lower is selected for heat - you'll get window vents too!
