Truck shakes when accelerating after I installed Michelin Defender 2s

After my initial set of tires started wearing out around 33k miles, I replaced them with a new set of Michelin Defender 2s from Costco. Right after I replaced them, I noticed my truck shaking when I accelerated to 40 mph. I had the tires aligned and the tires still shook . I took it back to Costco, who rebalanced the tires and said the tires look normal. The tires still shook when I accelerated, so I took it back and Costco rebalanced but the tires still shook. I took it to a different Costco for rebalancing but nothing changed. I took my truck to Firestone for Road Force Balancing twice and my truck still shook. I then had the Ford dealership take a look and they said that the truck suspension was normal. Now I am not sure what is wrong. Does anyone else have the same experience?

Vince...I had this same issue recently on my F-250. Got new BFG KO 3's installed at Discount Tire. Truck vibrated as soon as I got to highway speeds. Waited to see if it might get smoother. Nope. Was at my Ford dealer for a DEF error code and asked it they could re-balance the tires. They did. No change....still the same vibration. My steering wheel was smooth....but my mirrors were vibrating. Soooo few weeks later BACK to Discount for them to do a Road Force Balance. Drive away.....SAME vibration. No change. The next weekend I went back to Discount and spoke with the manager. I had put 2500 miles on them since the original install...but he said let's try another set...for free. I asked if I could try another brand, since I had read (internet search) that the new KO 3"s were having problems being balanced. They put on 4 new Mickey Thompson Baja Boss's ....and wala......smooth as butter. It was NEVER my truck....it was bad tires the entire 2500 miles. And of course, I KNEW it was NOT my truck...as it was butter smooth the day I took off the KO 2's and bought the KO 3's. I would ask them for 4 new tires, due to factory defect on the ones you received. Hope that helps.

change to a different tire to rule it out.

If you have under so many miles, most places will be willing to work with you. I'd change BRAND of tire just to see if the shake is the tire or the truck.

Sounds like you gave the tires you have a fair shake. Ops. Was that an unintentional pun?

I had a problem like this with my old Ranger. Some shops that have a Road Force machine don't actually know how to use it, or they use it like a standard static balancer and are just being lazy. Did they give you the Road Force printout? If it was done correctly, it would show any problems with the tires.

I would reach out to Michelin and see if they will help you out. I had to do that in the past, and the tire company had me take it to their shop of choice for free and replaced them under warranty.

Bad tires see post 3!! If the Original tires were fine with no shakes!!

Same kinda of thing happened to my dads brand new '76 Mustang he purchased thru AAFEES while stationed in europe. Ford put on Goodyear tires at the factory when building the car. He would get on the Autobahn and once the car got to 60mph it would shake bad. He took the car to a German ford dealership. After several attempts to balance them out, they told him the Goodyear tires were bad and replaced them for free with Continentals. Car drove fine afterward. Last set of Goodyears he owned.

I don't think it's the tires, sounds more like time to check your axels, mileage is at the sweet spot for that problem.

All it takes is 1 tire to be out of round or have a slipped belt inside.
Had it happen a lot of years ago with one of my uniroyal nail-guard tires. The tire balanced fine. The tire looked okay, until you ran your hand over the surface of the tread you could feel the slight imperfection it was a slipped belt. That tire caused a lot of vibration.
