Okay regardless, my point still stands that the "same vehicle" aka Santa cruz is rated for 5k, and even if the ranger was "only" rated for 6000, it still weighs less, still has worse brakes, still has worse tires. Trailer ratings are based on safety, safety means you need mass to control the Trailer, mass to slow it down, and power to make it move. Simple as. If the maverick beats the old ranger in every metric, then why is it rated so low? It should easily be able to handle 5k lbs."physics is physics"?
Just for clarification, what early 2000s Ford Ranger had a 9000lbs towing capacity? The highest I found was about 6000lbs.
Ok, I'll answer my own question.
2002-2008 Ranger had a max towing capacity of 6000lbs: with the 6 cylinder engine and higher ratio rear end. The GCWR was 9500lbs.
The 4 cylinder engine had a max tow rating of 2600lbs with a GCWR of 5500lbs.
Companies have done MUCH worse things than underrate a vehicles towing ratings so it doesn't cut into the sales of their larger vehicles.
