tow receiver wiring kit

Ordered a wiring kit from Curt to go with the receiver I just installed. The directions call for a direct wire from the Battery to the black box to power the trailer lights. The bed has two 12VDC outlets. These are fused at 20A for the pair. Has anyone used these instead of a direct wire to the Battery? Thoughts?

The pair of 12VC outlets are fused with a 20A fuse. Only planning on using a single outlet. Called Curt, they said to follow the directions. Liability issues I would guess, too many lawyers. I don't see a problem so far, just looking for someone who has done it before. Don't want to re-invent the wheel.

i was wondering same thing when i saw the uhaul video. id definitely try it worse case scenario you blow a fuse

On my Focus I tapped into the fuse box in the trunk without issue. 14Vx20A is a lot of Watts, so you ought to be good to go.

Yeah, I thought so. I did use the power outlet on the left rear, tapping in using the connector found in the glove box (that few people recognized). I soldered all the connections and used heat shrink insulation. Looks good, works great.
