Tonneau Covers & Security

Hey there everyone,

Like many folks on here, I’m trying to locate the best tonneau cover for both affordability and quality. I keep going back and forth between every style there is, trying to keep it sub $500. Security is one theme that keeps coming to mind, which the answer would be a hard top.

My question is, has anyone or do you guys know anyone who has actually had a tonneau cover broken into, and I mean like a soft top being deliberately cut so someone could get into it. I feel like this is not a common occurrence, possible yes, but not common. That is the one drawback I’m facing when choosing a cover but I want to know how often bad guys are actually cutting into these things.

Just remember locks keep honest people honest If someone want in your bed they will get in it also out of sight out of mind I'm in the process of building some out of sight compartments in my bed so even when the tonneau cover is open other things will be out of sight

What brand cover is that? Looks like a hard roll up?

I’d love to see these how these “out of sight” compartments turn out too.

Outside the hard cover and locking adds some peace of mind. Where I live I just try to not being too oblivious that the bed has contents. When parking putting stuff in and walking away or multiple stop n go trips. Not sure if you can add an alarm or sorts.

Btw what do you use to keep the roll-up material clean?

Purchased these from Amazon and installed it at the Hard Cover Hinge point closest to the tailgate. If someone pries open your cover when tailgate is locked this alarm will go off as soon as they start to lift it and it is a very loud siren sound. There is no switch for them to turn it off on the alarm, it must be turned off with the remote. There are Qty 2 included with it and you can program both remotes to work the one alarm. I leave my remote in the display cubby hole until I set it. I only use it when I leave something of value in the bed. Works great. They are held in place with 2 way tape but they will fall of when the cover gets hot. I used a few self tapping screws to hold them in place. I used to own a truck accessories store. We sold a fair number of soft tonneaus that were replacing damaged ones. A few here and there were units that had been cut and one was stolen because the owner left the truck parked with the tonneau open (it was a trifold, so only 2 wing nuts to loosen). Much more often than not, the damage was either weather related or user caused.

Hard tonneaus will provide more security but a hard tonneau with good quality under $500 is a huge ask.

it is a Ford factory Row up . A little more them $ 500.00 Dollars . Not sure if it's worth the extra money but a Good Cover I have the compartment built just need to cover it in carpet will post when finished

Yeah, that roll up is probably my dream one or the Truxedo Sentey CT but both are way outside my budget.

I like how you wrapped the wood divider too. I was thinking about something like that. Maybe a black rubber spray on or something.

That is all you can ask for. Mine is parked in my driveway so I would hear it right away. Someone already tried to get to my Converter but they were a little noisy and I heard them and scared them off. They were banging on the bottom of the truck trying to figure out what the hybrid underbody covers were all about that was limiting their access to the underbody. Scared them off.....4 young teenagers.

I have the same one. Its a Ford hard roll. Love it the look is great and the latches work well as long as you install it correctly.
