I just got my Maverick. The tire pressure from the dealership are about 42PSI for each tire. Car door instructions indicate the cold PSI should be about 36PSI. Should I release the pressure on the tires?

Yes. New vehicles typically have higher pressures for some reason. It almost always makes sense to go with the manual.

Yes.
It is set high for shipping and dealerships often miss lowering it before delivery. This happened with a Subaru I bought too, which was discovered a week later when the dealer tech person was giving us a tour of its various features… 😁

Word is, tires are filled to 45 psi at the factory. Dealer is supposed to, among other things, adjust tire pressure during the Pre-delivery Inspection, aka PDI.

My 2024 hybrid Lariat door sticker says 35 psi all around; I run 36 psi which still gives a decent ride. The Michellin A/S tires on the Lariat are excellent tires for all-around driving and hold air very well.

It took about 2,000 miles of urban/suburban driving before my hybrid system seemed to be broken in and the suspension was more supple. Mine has been trouble free so far, my trip odometer says plus or minus 45 mpg and I go 600 miles per tank. Enjoy your trucklet!

P.S. If they didn't point out the button for the fuel door release during the delivery orientation, locate it before you need to get gas.

Check it COLD, first thing in the morning. Then make adjustments before driving. Check it with a known good tire pressure gauge. The truck's TPMS is sometimes, but not always correct, nor are a lot of cheap gauges.

I run my 2022 Mav tires at 42 PSI and runs great, the ride is comfortable for me and the tires are wearing evenly alll around. I rotate the tires about every 8,000 miles with the oil change.

Ozarkbeard sounds like a pretty smart guy. DO WHAT HE SAYS. That said, if you bought 10 gauges, running from $1 to $100, NO TWO OF THEM WOULD GIVE YOU THE SAME READING. This proves there is a Satan. P.S. I have never been able to get two identical reading FROM THE SAME GAUGE !!!

Here is my opinion. As long as you are adjusting the pressures cold, any decent gauge should do fine. The spring style pen type are probably the least accurate, but as long as you are within a pound or 2 cold, the tires will be ok. The reason that you adjust the temps cold is because when the tires warm up, the air expands and the pressure increases. This does not happen at the same rate, every time, so your tire pressures will never be exactly the same.

From back in my circle track days, If you really want to make sure your tires are aired up correctly, get a gauge you only use on your vehicle and get a tire temperature gauge, preferably a gauge that is calibrated (last one I bought, 20 plus years ago was $100). Air your tires and test temperatures across the tire in at least 5 spots (outer, center, inner, and in between) after driving it and adjust the pressure until all temperatures are the same. Now, you have to do this at multiple ambient temperatures and record your pressures and adjust each time you drive. Every tire will be different. This will give you the most even wear, and greatest traction for each tire. But for non critical applications (like your maverick) this is a bit overkill.

Lower Tire pressure (36) the better the ride quality The higher the pressure (42) will get better tire wear and gas mileage. Not by much either way but the factory always goes lower to enhance the ride.
