any tips for installing a hood deflector (bug shield)? Picked one up from the dealer using some Fordpass points, want to do it this weekend when it warms up a little. thanks in advnace
Here's a thread detailing my experience..... Watch out for the sharp edges when you're peeling off the protective wrap and adhesive when you do the install.
Don’t install it crooked like I did that my best advice . Granted mine isn’t too lopsided only about 1mm difference on each side, but it drives my ocd crazy. I did use masking tape along the top edge so I could align it and flip it back to peel the tape.
As the previous poster mentioned you’ll want to feel around the bottom lip of the hood deflector when you have it in the spot you want to see if the sharp edge along the bottom slices your fingers
Pro tip: Line it up and use blue painters tape to hold it in place when getting it centered.
Carefully cut the tape gap between the hood and the deflector, leaving tape in place on both. This is your guideline for installation.
Remove some of the red tape from the adhesive tape, and then use the blue painters tape to realign where the deflector goes, then adhere. Remove the blue tape and you're good to go.
All of the above are good suggestions. I would make sure you connect masking tape or something better to each peel strip at the top and bottom of the deflector which is available to pull outside edge of the deflector. Once you have it aligned correctly and taped at each end. Gently pull each peel strip and push adhere to hood.
