I have been trying to discover the possible effect a Maverick sitting on a railcar for an extended time could have on the vehicle, but have only found generic articles about letting a vehicle sit without running for more than a month.

Could the current issues of battery life and corrosion be linked to the vehicle sitting for long periods of time on a railcar? Are there other possible issues?

My Maverick has been sitting on a railcar for 60+ days outside of Houston in sweltering heat, humidity and sea air. Any opinions on long-term effect?

Probably the worse part is going to be cleaning up the mess that the residents left.

Cars sit at dealerships all the time for a lot longer than the Mav will be sitting at the rail yard.. I don't think it will cause any issues..

When I get mine I plan to do an iron remover and clay on the paint. Followed up by a good paint sealant/wax. Thats the only real problem I see with them sitting on the rail for a long time is all the steel dust from the trains and tracks getting embedded into the finish. As for the battery (12v kind) we bought a new leftover 2017 Edge back in 2018 and the battery was pretty low/dead from sitting for a long time on the lot. The dealership changed the battery prior to us taking delivery so no big deal. Had no tire flat spot problems but who knows when they are chained down to an auto rack rail car. I'd drive it prior to taking delivery and make sure.

Biggest issue is the 12v battery. The sitting isn’t good for it. Degradation likely will shorten the life, but not typically enough to show up at this time.

As for the tires, they are over inflated to prevent flat spotting but the pressure should be lowered by the dealer before delivery. You should always test drive before delivery so if there is any flat spotting you’ll see.

There has been a few threads on this forum about dead 12V battery issues soon after taking ownership, and the dealers replaced the battery.

I searched for one specific thread where a poster referenced the Mav Owners Manual stating, it stated if Mav sits for 30 days or more the 12V battery should be disconnected to prevent a dead battery, but I was unable to locate that thread.

My 2009 Rav4 manual also states similar battery disconnect if stored long time, so I'd think the above Owners Manual statement is probably generic for most modern vehicles with more and more electronic gizmos.

I plan on testing my Mav's 12V battery soon after delivery, if/when I ever receive it.

See storage in manual page 325. Not mentioned in manual but any battery sitting for a time should be fully charged ASAP. In my lawn mowers and Polaris ranger, they have agm and sealed deep cycle batteries I place a maintenance charger on the ranger most of time because it is low use and has an AGM battery. (The ones that fit the ranger low usage vehicles only come with 6months warranty because a lot of people let them sit for long times which is kiss of death more so on agm, I think. I forgot charger was on mower once and did not charge ranger bat for three or more months. It took 3 weeks before recovery charge was completed. My charger has green light that blinks and when bat is 80-85% charged blink is real slow so is easy to think battery is charged since light blinks so slowly. When 200% charged green light goes off and charger enters maintenance state).

Chris_G, why would you want to delete a safety feature like pedestrian alert? I didn’t even know this feature was offered. (Read about this in the multi-line bar at the bottom of your posting.)

When hunting pedestrians stealth is important. They're a skidish bunch often jumping out of the way.
