Rusting rail dust embeded in paint is a very common issue for new cars (Industrial/Rail fallout). We got a Mustang earlier this year that sat in rail cars and yards for almost a month. I clay bared it immediatly. The clay bar got a reddish tint to it from the rusting steel embeded in the paint.

Easy way to check for paint surface contaminants is take a plastic sandwich bag and put your hand in it, rub cleaned paint surface lightly. If you feel very rough paint, then it could possibly use a claybar treatment. Even after claybar you will feel some roughness as the bag magnifies every bump, but should be much better. With white paint you can sometimes see the rusting specks.

20 dollars to buy and do yourself. It's easy, just make sure you read instructions and do it right

Edit: adding video of rusting rail dust in new paint. Lots of articles and videos about it.

I have been trying to discover the possible effect a Maverick sitting on a railcar for an extended time could have on the vehicle, but have only found generic articles about letting a vehicle sit without running for more than a month.

Could the current issues of battery life and corrosion be linked to the vehicle sitting for long periods of time on a railcar? Are there other possible issues?

My Maverick has been sitting on a railcar for 60+ days outside of Houston in sweltering heat, humidity and sea air. Any opinions on long-term effect?
You'll definitely what to use some sort of Iron dust nuturalizer from all the rust dust from the railyard

When hunting pedestrians stealth is important. They're a skidish bunch often jumping out of the way.
BUT, you get more points if you have a pedestrian alert system. Gives them a more sporting chance, so you are rewarded with the points.

Other than rock throwers and pellet gunners, I would have no worries. My special order 97 Ranger Splash got damaged by vandalism while on a rail car from Twin Cities to the east coast. The fiberglass left rear quarter gat bashed and needed replacement. I was actually at the dealership the day my truck arrived on the 18 wheeler and my heart sunk to my feet when I saw my truck.

Mine has been sitting at the factory sinc completion on September 6. My dealer, Monarch Ford in Exeter, CA has been very straightforward through all of the delays. When I finally get my vehicle, I am going to push for a seriously discounted extended warranty. I know these are high profit items for dealers.

As recent posters have mentioned, I would be less concerned about the battery and more about iron dust and other industrial fallout in the paint. Grab a couple bottles of fallout/iron remover and spray liberally before you claybar or do your first wash. Some folks integrate the rinsing off of the fallout remover (don't want to let it dry on your paint) into their initial step of foaming or plain water rinsing as part of a longer wash regimen.
