Unlike most of the folks on the MTC, I wanted a longer-than-OEM rooftop antenna to see if I could pull in far-off radio stations in the Maverick, so off to Amazon I went. Found the Eightwood universal radio antenna, with a 16" mast and three threaded adapters to choose from. Installation is three steps: unscrew the original, match the thread with one of the adapters and thread it into the new mast, screw the new mast into the rooftop base and hand-tighten. Done.

I'll be traveling outside of my favorite radio stations this weekend, so we'll see if the longer antenna makes a difference in reception.

Hey now, the CBC is a Canadian Tax payer funded broadcaster. You are freeloading off of our hard-earned tax dollars. Please kindly forward a cheque (spelt correctly, eh!) to me and I will forward it to the appropriate bean counter in Ottawa!

Seeing as how I am GM of an AM/FM combo I have found the Stubby to be essentially a fecal remnant. I just ordered this 16"er. For $10, it's sure worth a try for me.

I have tried it also and very satisfied with its FM performance. HD stations that usually would often drop to normal definition are now very steady at HD level. I like the look, also fits our NC Miata perfectly appearing more like their OEM antenna. Ours currently has the eight inch replacement rubber floppy one.

The Eightwood is the one I ordered, too. It's marginally better at pulling in the weaker or more distant stations, and at $10 I didn't have much to lose. I'm keeping it. Kinda like the look of the longer antenna too, since the trend is toward stubbies or none at all. Swimming against the 'stream'! (pun intended)
Do you, or anyone else, pick up static when the brakes are applied and listening to AM radio?
If so does this antenna help at all with that?

@wax87
Don't have AM stations around here that I listen to enough to have noted it or not. I will check it out next time I take it out.

Can't say; I've never even tried AM on mine.

It is more prevalent between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am when the stations run at lower power settings.

Did check it out today. Only got static on the stations with poor reception. Did not change with use of brakes during the day. Seem to receive more useable stations than I remember when looking earlier. Could be wrong here, however. I have the Lariat and it's radio system.

If this antenna works better and can survive the drop down air dryer at the car wash, I would also be interested. (y)
You will need to remove it at the car wash. It will get torn off otherwise.
I was going through a car wash once with a Grand Cherokee. One of the spinning mops grabbed the antenna and instead of breaking off the antenna the entire right fender began to roll up like a sardine can. When I got out the wash and drove around to the managers office I had a chance to see how much damage was done. I couldn’t believe that amount of damage could be done without kicking out the power.
