The little "Nanny" Truck now has global up/down on all 4 windows and the engine on/off is now disabled. Global up/down is great for Arizona weather, I can drop all four and at least get the 150 degree heat out before starting the engine. And whoever decided we needed engine on/off should be tared and feathered!!

how did you get global windows? Was it hard to reprogram?
I really don't know, I barley know how to post on the web page. But I will say all information needed is on this forum. My son knows forscan and my Grand son is a school trained auto mechanic as well....me? Nope. Old dinosaur I am.

You can thank the climate change cultists in the fed government for the engine on/off annoyance.

Fat Fingers.... i do that All the Time... 🙄

Jerry
It takes two hands to handle a whopper,
And
Four fingers to do all four windows at once.

On hot days I leave all five of mine open and inch.
Key fob start,
A/C cools the cabin right down WITH the windows open and inch.

From something I read once a while back, the automatic on off, the engine was a Biden thing. I think I also heard that that is something that Trump is trying to get rid of.

From what I read, the automatic off-on issue was a mfr decision to meet any silly EPA mileage standard, not govt mandate. And word is inspite Trump administration may drop it the mfrs could keep this feature.

It’s a silly world out there.

Damn right! That pesky Japanese government!

Sorry, I'll turn my sarcasm off. Yeah, the US government (and many others around the world) encouraged using the system, but it was Japan who caused the technology to be invented. If we want to join BouseBill with tare and feathering the inventor, that would be Toyota, who came up with and first started using the tech in 1974 due to new Japanese regulations. Back then it was a worthwhile idea, given the gas crisis and how inefficient engines were at that time. Engines today are much more efficient and while start-stop can still help, it's not nearly nearly as useful as in the past.

From something I read once a while back, the automatic on off, the engine was a Biden thing. I think I also heard that that is something that Trump is trying to get rid of.
The history on this is a little longer than I thought, starting with the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) program which was first enacted in 1975. In 2007, the Bush administration enacted the CAFE credit trading system that allowed manufacturers to spread credits across cars, trucks, and even different companies, which meant manufacturers could more easily offset their larger, lower fuel efficient vehicles with smaller, more efficient vehicles and still meet overall standards. Then in 2012 Obama directed the EPA to develop incentives / credits for manufacturers who used start-stop technology, which by then had already existed for 36 years! Again, adding start-stop systems was a way for manufacturers to meet EPA standards more easily without having to do the hard work of actually making smaller / more fuel efficient / lower emission vehicles. It was never a required technology and unfortunately, as is often the case with big companies who see a loophole, many of them slapped half-baked start-stop systems onto their internal combustion engine vehicles to meet those standards but without much concern for how annoying the tradeoffs would be for us consumers. To be fair, some manufacturers have actually put some effort into refining their systems to make it better, but at least for internal combustion engines it seems like a failed technology.

As of February Trump's EPA has done away with the 2012 incentives, so we're likely to see less new vehicles come with start-stop, at least as standard equipment. I just read an article (https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a70350799/epa-eliminating-stop-start-automaker-comments) with comments from various manufacturers and it sounds like some of them, at least for the time being, are still going to use or maybe offer as an option start-stop systems on some of their vehicles.

Here's a relatively short article on the history of start-stop: https://carbuzz.com/is-auto-start-stop-ban-good-idea/ . As a hybrid owner I completely agree with their summation, it works great on a true hybrid but is terrible on non-hybrids.
