SWMBO just asked ..how about the rain?
We had bad bad weather the night I installed it. Tornados in the area and stuff like that. I loaded my golf clubs the next morning and there wasn’t a DROP inside it. I put paper towels in the bed and covered the whole bed so I could see where the water was coming from. Not one piece had a single wet spot.

That’s my purpose for purchasing it. For golf trips we do twice a year. When it’s my turn to drive, this and my plan to build a platform with unistrut and a modified version of the flex bed mounts will allow me to get luggage and golf bags for 4 guys in there comfortably with zero concern of anything getting wet.

I really couldn't wait for this to come out, and I am not criticizing the choice to have one, but I think they rushed it to market. The fit in the back is sloppy. For the price, I would expect better fit.
It’s about function for me. It will fold out of the way, is removed with 4 bolts and it’ll keep my stuff dry when traveling. Function is accomplished for me

I understand. I am disappointed in the style/fit. If I needed the function I would buy one. Being retired, my tonneau works for me for now. No disrespect intended.

I was wondering what the need is for one of these, but I guess you answered it above.

So does it collapse down to be a flush tonneau cover and then raise up when you need the space or is it rigid? It is easier to take off than a hard top bed cover also I take it. Other than that, I don't see the benefit over a hard cab. I guess the ease of removal could be a big part of it.

It folds out of the way. Doesn’t let up and down. You can also roll the sides up, front and back up, just the back, or the sides and back. It’s pretty flexible in what you can do. I took everything off today to get the decking in(had to because of the size I cut it). Took me about 2 minutes with an impact. I unsnapped the sides, unzipped the back and folded it toward the cab. The 4 clamp bolts removed with an impact and sat the whole thing off the truck.

that is a genius idea in lieu of the drawer system, and it got me to think you should consider cutting the wood just an inch before (towards the tailgate side) of the first bolt and adding hinges that allows the wood to 'flip' backward (towards the cab) to get some extra space for tall items

Got my SofTopper today and since I’m off all next week for my kids spring break, and it’s forecasted to rain every day… I had no choice but to install it after meeting the wife and kid for dinner and finally getting home. Sorry the pics are in the dark but I didn’t start till 10:15…. I will say the side snaps are a PITA to button the first time. The cover has to be stretched and you REALLY need 2 people (I’m stubborn but I got it). I’m sure I’ll have to adjust it again later but I’m pretty darn happy with this. Once I get all the unistrut I need to finish the inside the bed plans, I’ll have it golf trip ready (the whole reason for buying the SofTopper as I have a trip coming up at the end of the month). Wished I wasn’t terrified of installing the cruise control pods (XL owner) before the warranty is up… I have them and the cable but haven’t touched it yet. Anyway, some pics in the dark

How's your Softopper holding up? Adding that platform was a genius idea. Have you done anything else to add security?

Just make sure you have 2 people with a lot of grip strength available when you snap it the first time. I said lots of curse words last night snapping this on by myself
Mine is sitting in my garage. I tried to install it on a 30 degree December Ohio day. I know the instructions say to do it on a warm, sunny day but I thought, "Meh. It'll just be hard to do on a cold day. I can do hard stuff." Nope. No way. Not a chance. I guess I'll wait until June to try again.

If you’ve got room, you could assemble it in your garage and then put it on the truck. I’ve taken mine off before without folding it down just to see if it could be done (had my wife help lift it, it’s not heavy just awkward). Just assemble the frame and fold it up then connect the straps. Put the cover over the frame and snap it to the frame. Then all you have to do is to lift it into place, set the front/rear position and install 4 clamps. That’s all that holds it in place are the 4 clamps. If your garage is heated/warm you’ll be able to stretch it easily. I got it stretched when it was cold the first time but it was a CHORE.

It’s holding up great. Sorry just saw this reply. I only put this on from late fall here (late October-ish) until about mid-march when it gets close to spring. The exceptions are if I’m taking a trip and need 3 seats in the front for people. So mine isn’t on year round and taking UV. When it’s not on, I hang it on the wall in my garage

No worries. I ended up getting a black one and it’s on the truck seasonally also. I’ve not added the wood piece for security like you have but I’ve not had issues so far. You do any other mods?

Not yet. I’m probably about to buy a hard folding tonneau for summer months though. Should’ve bought the rough country when it first came out cause it was much cheaper. The wood piece was actually for me to be able to separate the top and bottom into 2 halves and put golf bags under the bottom and luggage on the top when traveling. That way we can get the clubs out easily then put the luggage under it while we play then luggage back up top. I’ve been looking at having a buddy build me custom front and rear bumpers out of scrap stainless I have. That and I want to make a hitch mount from a deer skinning accessory that I can mount a golf club loft/lie machine on to be able to bend clubs at the range and check them there instead of getting measurements then come home to bend lol.
