Was reading through the owners manual on page 81. Came across the directions for the middle position of the tailgate. After the directions there is a statement...

"Note: Attach the safety bracket when using the tailgate in the middle position."

Does anyone have this safety bracket? Was it supposed to come with the truck?

OPENING THE TAILGATE TO THE
MIDDLE POSITION
1. Open the tailgate.
E351595
2. Raise the tailgate slightly to allow slack
in the tailgate cables.
E351596
3. Use the pull tabs to unlock the clip on
each connector, move the clip past the
head of the support screw and
disconnect the cable.
4. Move the tailgate cables and secure
them to the tailgate strikers.
Note: Attach both cables when using the
tailgate in the middle position.
Note: The tailgate should not be closed
while the cables are secured to the tailgate
striker.
Note:Attach the safety bracket when using
the tailgate in the middle position.

It's the cables on the sides. You can remove them and place them in a different location.

That is what I thought it was but the owners manual sounds like it was something that I needed to "attach". The next page has a picture of the bracket.

Hmmm, I don't see how that bracket comes into play, so if I'll be hauling things like plywood, I plan to simply move the cobles to the tailgate strikers and call it good to go.

Could be just a reminder. The safety bracket is so the tailgate doesn’t become unhooked at the bottom if I’m not mistaken. Definitely want the safety bracket in place if the tailgate isn't closed all the way.

Additionaly, if you have the anti-theft tailgate lock, you need not worry either. Your tailgate can not come unhooked. The lock actually replaces this bracket.
