So I have a problem. I could have sworn I was a technique for adjusting the tailgate to the second height available (the one higher than the wheel wells), but I guess I must have dreamt it up.
I'm going to build a tool box to the height of the higher of the two locations to hold all my construction tools (the wheel well height wont cut it) and I need the tailgate to stop at that location so that I can still carry some lumber in the remaining 6 or so inches I will have left under my tonneau cover.
My question is: Am I missing the the technique to make that adjustment, or am I on my own to design a cable apparatus to put a bend (I'm thinking an S shape) in the cable to get tailgate to line up with the higher location?
I have attached pictures showing the first height that the cables stop at now, and a picture of where I need it to stop.

BTW: this model of air compressor works fine with the 400 watts avaliable from the inverter.

yes. you have to loop the cable at this bolt right here

Thanks for the reply, but I tried that and it resulted in it being about 1" too high, even with my 210 lbs sitting on the tail gate, but I'm wondering if that was Ford's intention ? I really want it to be level with my tool box lid.

You have an unusual garage door (at least to me). It looks like it has a truss along the bottom edge and maybe steel framing. . . Are the struts motorized?

Remove the cable from around the lower pin, it doesn't belong there, the cables attached directly from the top pins to the tailgate when in the upper position.

Remove the cables, give them one twist and reinstall and see if that helps..

good luck...

How level is your T/G when it's fully down? There are several threads here about inconsistent T/G cable lengths.... you may be experiencing that.

Mine is pretty close to level in the middle position with 2x's across the wheelwells. The cables *should* just hook straight up from the lower posts to the upper posts when switching.

Maybe investigate a warranty claim with the dealer for new cables? Or, plane down your 2x's to fit.

It's actually an airplane hanger door, it's no longer used to house an airplane though, I use my hanger to house my equipment and materials. The cylinders are electric over hydraulic.

It's possible Ford didn't intend the bed recesses you are trying to use to be even with the lip of the tailgate. I set mine up with some 2X lumber in lower recesses and it worked out fine.
