Thanks to zackmd1 and @propp2531 for their hard and challenging work. It's never easy to modify systems meant to be locked down. I know from experience that trial and error work can be tedious. Thank you for posting your results and I look forward to seeing how far you go.

I have been having a very frustrating time with my Google Pixel 6 (newest most current HW and SW) and my XLT Lux infotainment system and Bluetooth dropping consistently. AA also drops consistently and can take up to 5 minutes to reconnect. I did buy the Motorola MA1 dongle and while it works great, it too consistently drops (cause it's using bluetooth too).

If this tweak helps make that better I'm excited to try it.
I have same set up (Pixel 6 / XLT / MA1). I haven't had any issues with either wired or wireless AA, but I know the first couple updates for the Pixel 6 line have had some BT issues (I had some BT issues with the January update, but they never impacted my connection in the Maverick). There is a new mid-month update for Pixel 6 that was just released today. That might help.

FWIW, My Google pixel 6 works flawlessly with my Hybrid Lariat(not Lux package) Sync system. Nothing but good things to say. No issues with its Android Auto working quite well. I am not sure why some others are having a different experience.

Mike
I'm not sure why mine wouldn't. Another interesting tid-bit my son was using his iPhone13 last night and saw the same Bluetooth dropping issue.

Maybe it's a firmware issue on the Sync. Maybe another trip to the dealer.

I'm installing that update now! I was totally current though so I'm hopeful but expect failure! :)

Yeah. I think Google's move to their own sensor has been a little bumpy. I've had a great experience so far other than a minor BT issue for a couple weeks (love my Pixel 6), but I know some are having a rough go at it (kind of like the Maverick :))

So I figured I would go ahead and start this thread. @propp2531 and I have been working in the background on the potential of swapping Sync 4 into our trucks. Non Sync 3 Maverick systems present a challenge since an APIM does not actually exist as a separate module. The screen and software are run directly from the ACM. This means an adapter harness must be made to add in the required APIM and the ACM has to be swapped for a sync 3 based ACM. Thankfully that is fairly easy with passthrough harnesses existing for the ACM and all of the required leads for the APIM connector exist on the OEM ACM wiring. Below are pictures of the adapter harness and the first boot up of a Sync 4 APIM in a Maverick XL. With the easy part done, programming is next....

And for those wondering, this method would also work to add Sync 3 to non Sync 3 systems. Programming of Sync 3 would also be much easier, but where is the fun in that!
I want to change the compass out on the display to another gui. Can it be done? Already have a compass on the instrument panel screen.

You would need a nav specific APIM. If you go sync 4 you need to make sure you get the 8 inch screen apim. Not all will work. I don’t know if ford makes a nav 8 inch apim though

If you do sync 3 you need a gen 4 apim with nav available
.

I’m waiting on my XLT ecoboost maverick. How do I know if it has the sync 3? Also what is the difference between the sync 3 and sync 4?

It might be possible through an as built data change but there is no user forward option to do so.

Only Lariat trims with the premium sound package get Sync 3. Very little difference between the 8” sync 3 and 4. Largest plus to sync 4 is wireless carplay.

I wonder, let's say I find a salvage lariat lux with sync 3 in the future. How difficult it would be just to swap out what's needed on my invisible XLT lux/4K to get the sync 3 from the Lariat lux? I'm cool with a wired connection so no issues there.

Theoretically you should be able to take the dash harness, acm, and APIM and swap it into your XLT without issue and without any custom harness.
