To the best of my knowledge, the Sync 3 GPS is a dumb system and does not receive traffic information. That true?
Recently (twice in the last 2 weeks) while using the GPS, the system all of a sudden rerouted me... No notice, just changed how it was sending me. The 1st time, I ignored and just after the exit it wanted me to get off at (I 495 in Westford MA), I came to a complete stop due to an accident 4 miles ahead. Took me a half hour to travel that 4 miles. The second time I was on Route 2, heading toward Concord and Lexington when it again send me off the highway to a few loops and back on to avoid a decent size backup at the Rotary by the now closed prison. Anybody else had this happen on the Sync map program? This is my 3rd Ford with Sync 3 and it had never tried to reroute me in the past due to traffic.

SYNC 3 navigation in a Ford Maverick can receive live traffic updates, but it may require using the FordPass Connect modem or a separate SiriusXM NavTraffic subscription.

FordPass Connect, a modem built into the vehicle, provides real-time traffic information that the system uses to adjust routes. Alternatively, users can subscribe to SiriusXM NavTraffic for traffic updates if they prefer that method.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

FordPass Connect:

. This modem, built into the vehicle, provides real-time traffic data to the SYNC 3 navigation system.

How to activate FordPass Connect Live Traffic:

. To enable this feature, you'll need to activate your modem and data sharing, then navigate to the FordPass Connect tile on your SYNC screen and turn on Location and FordPass Connect Live Traffic.

SiriusXM NavTraffic:

. In some cases, particularly in North America, traffic updates are provided through SiriusXM NavTraffic, which requires a separate subscription.

Waze Integration:

. Ford SYNC 3 also supports the Waze app, which offers community-based real-time traffic and navigation updates, displayed on the SYNC 3 screen.

Gary.... I do have my phone connected to the truck and do have Ford Pass on my phone, but have never gone thru the items listed that it says is required to get traffic information. Was just in to the Ford Dealer about a week before these map rerouting started (bought the truck last Sept, almost 13,000 miles). The day after the 2nd reroute I also gut a low battery notice (not deep sleep) and told me to start the truck in order to get the items it turned off, working again. I tried remote start from the fob and it worked fine. Strange. Any way to find out the date of the last Sync 3 software update? I do have it set for auto updates.

What you described is the deep sleep problem. You are fortunate in that the 2024 models came with remote start on the keyfob. The 2023 models (ours is a Lariat) do not have key fob remote start as Ford assumed everyone would just use the FordPass app to remote start. Unfortunately the deep sleep problem prevents remote access to the vehicle.

You can go to a website and download the annual GPS update. Ford uses a third party company (not Google) to do their mapping for all Ford vehicles. You need to put the files on a specially formatted USB drive. The vehicle must be running to install. We did ours while taking a one hour drive. Each year Ford will release a new map database. You cannot update the GPS map over the air. It must be down via a USB flash drive.

Gary:
This is a EB, not Hybrid, I did not realize that the EBs could get the deep sleep notice.

I did a Sync 3 update manually (I believe) when I had the Escape by using my phone (received some sort of notice saying one was available). Just moved my car close enough to the house for my phone to pick up my WIFI. Not interested in paying to update the maps since I have not noticed any discrepancies (Yet). Checked the truck and I have Sync 3 version 3.4, build 23188 which is the most current version per Google. It was released in Sept 2023. Now that I know it does gets traffic updates, just trying to figure out what triggered it to start now 9 months after picking up the truck. lol

Back when I had my Edge, the map was on an SD card. Found one cheep on line and it worked fine. Just pop out the old SD card and pop in the new one. A hell of a lot cheaper than thru Ford.

Sorry. I missed the EB in the thread headline. It sounded like the same as all of us with the hybrids have been suffering with forever. Also, the annual GPS update shouldn't cost you anything. It didn't for us. They only charge if you want to purchase a ready made USB with the files preloaded. When I called them they say the GPS files are from two year old data. So the 2025 update uses 2023 road data forum the various state DOTs. In 2026 it will update using 2024 data.
