Storage/hauling solution for 100LBS propane tank...

Anyone got one? These are tall tanks that when full must be hauled upright. Always afraid that even if I strap the hell out of it with tie downs it will still fall over possibly causing some big problem.

Does anyone haul these tanks and have a solution?

Are their wider storage bases available for them like there is for a 20 lb gas grill tank ?

My initial thought would be to build a wood frame that the cylinder could slide into. Frame could use the cut outs in the bed to help with the bottom sliding front back side to side. Straps could keep the top from going anywhere.

I thought about that but I'm thinking these things are so top heavy that the 2x6 or whatever lumber I use would have to come up much higher than the 6 inches the cubbies normally are. Or am I misunderstanding you?

How often are you transporting them? You could build a brace out of wood that would sit on the bed rails and box the tank in or you could build a makeshift headache rack type mount to strap it to.

Home Depot rent a truck for 20.00. Has headache rack already, at least the ones in my area do.

If I'm gonna spend 20 bucks just to haul the tank it's definitely not worth it. I'll keep getting it delivered for the same price.

Tonneau covers all........ if you want to be rebellious, lay it down and tuck it in. If you want to play by the rules, ratchet strap the hell out of it (think spiderman). Laying these down and blocking in place (straps for added measure) for a short haul is not the end of the world.
