I've towed worse. 12k on a 10k trailer in a 8k van. Towed a 8k van with a zj and a eagle. Towed a 7000 chevy with a cj5 and a home made hitch.

Also Australian road trains exist. I may be endorsed for doubles and triples but damn!

"Now's the part where I make it very clear that I can't condone such activities, mostly because this truck-trailer-truck combo is way overweight. It crossed the scales at roughly 12,500 pounds, of which only 3,700 was the Maverick tow vehicle. That means the trailer and the Silverado it carried accounted for approximately 8,800 pounds—more than twice the Maverick's 4,000-pound max tow limit."

I can't imagine the truck would have any issue towing that much on flat ground, even frequently. The issue come in with hills and more importantly-stopping it. Major liability for an overloaded vehicle if you get in a crash.

Just because you can pull it, doesn't mean it's going to stop when you need it to. I work for a rental company and get guys all the time that think they can pull a piece of machinery with a 6-8k towing weight with a 4cyl Tacoma and a bumper hitch.

This is way more weight than can be done safely. But.... non-body-on-frame vehicles are underrated in the US. My previous car, a Subaru Outback, had a tow rating of 2700lbs in the US but the exact model in the UK had a rating of 4400lbs. Our speed limits are higher and we tend to be less educated about towing so ratings need to be lower. If you know what you're doing and you're not putting others at risk, I think the Maverick can probably safely tow slightly more than it's rated for short trips.
Not Legally and if you cause an accident you would be liable.

Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should...
This. But people will anyway.

It's not safe to do something like that, but it's nice to know it could be done in a pinch.

This isn't a jab to any particular person, it's a forum full of opinions and here's mine. Even with the "4k" tow package ford missed the biggest thing.... Braking power. You should not tow more then what your tow vehicle weighs, otherwise the thing that is being towed will push you around.... Common sense. I push to anyone with a 4k package that tows that much weight that the stock brakes are not meant for the job. " It worked didn't it?" Will be the response....

But hey, atleast they have your engine and transmission cooling under control while the brakes are being pushed to the limit and beyond. So many YouTubers have pushed the Mavericks into the red zone or have tried to find the limits, will be interesting to see all the failures or lack there of from the abuse. If they can keep it running, the "common folk" who don't beat on the truck should have a long lasting little truck. I pray for those buying used mavericks for over MSRP and probably getting a vehicle that was driven for the "subscribers". My Maverick has officially 3,000 miles on it as of 3 days ago... My Biggest load, being a measly 300 pounds of ice fishing gear ( including my weight). And has only been pedal to the floor 10mph-50mph once at 2,975ish some miles.... It's already had 2 oil changes, if my Maverick falls apart before the YouTubers I'll be a little disappointed. I hope your Mavericks drive true and to anyone buying a used one, I wish you luck!

Was the Maverick a hybrid or 2.0?

Dont wreck, also in most places if you cause an accident you are liable anyway.

I think the biggest take away from this that people are missing is that he only went 7 miles. I drive 1.5 miles before I even hit a real road. Some parts of the country thats the distance to your nearest neighbor. I have seen plenty farmers tow a couple of linked trailers of grain or straw, longer than that with nothing but a 15 year old F250. Are the safety police on the internet gonna stop them from making due with what they got when the farm loan is on the line and the combine they just financed is worth 3 times the price of their house?

You do what you gotta do when you gotta do. My brother towed 10,000lbs of my van and his race trailer 10 miles because my trans blew on the highway. He towed it with a 1991 4.3 Chevy 1500. This was in 2009. Yeah it has a full frame but only about 70% the power and 85% the tq of a Mav.

The main thing you gotta do is take it slow and safe. This guy didnt really, he hit 55mph and strapped it as poorly as the townsfolk strapped down the giant. Other than that, I see no reason why someone wouldnt do this at a max of 35mph out on the backroads.
