HayBales. Your comments are very insightful, and gives me ideas that I didn't get from the dealer. The cell issues makes sense. Thank You!Keyless entry is when your fob moves close to truck, it preps for unlock via handle touch, and preps some other systems for driving. You don't have to press unlock button on fob.
Non-keyless you have to push the fob button to send signal to truck to unlock, and then it preps.
Keypad is that too, unless it's actually the factory option wired in.
In either case - the truck is 24 hrs listening for a fob. Keyless has more antennas as it has to distinguish fob in the cab or outside.
So that's not the problem.
Does the dealer report the battery is good, do they say or the paperwork give a SOH reading?
They care if it drops below it appears 40%.
I'd hope they don't call 50% good, but would rather explain it's not bad enough yet.
If your cell carrier is spotty at home, and usually the 3 carriers share the same towers, ATT could easily be spotty weak signal too.
That runs a phone battery down quicker as it has to increase the signal on it's side to be heard by tower.
So too the truck - it appears to only connect hourly to keep unused connection up, but there's extra power used if weak cell signal.
Not sure what happens if really bad signal and it doesn't always get a response back from Ford's server - is it willing to sit there for 15 min every hour constantly trying to get the connection up, or a response back, before it's successful or gives up?
That's a lot of power use attempting that.
WiFi - you have the in-truck WiFi option being used, where your phone connects to the truck wifi?
If so, the truck then sends all that wifi data out the ATT modem - while truck is running or key to On mode - no big whoop, power is coming from HVB.
If sitting in Accessory mode - no good, especially where there is potentially weak signal.
If you mean the info-center option to have WiFi on for the truck to check for updates - as long as it's close enough to get on the wifi, it's once a day - and there are none.
WiFi uses less power than cellular, so even terrible wifi doesn't use that much power.
Now if it was actually downloading data over bad connection, ok that's bad.
But the non-Lariats have no radio updates. So wasted action might as well disable.
Keyless
I am NON-keyless. I have a FOB, but have to press the button. It does not open when I get close.
Battery
I'm not sure about SOH reading. I will have to look into y that.
Cell Signal Quality
Cell reception at the school parking is BAD. It is a recessed area with hills on all sides. My son says his phone barely gets any reception there.
Home is better, but not great. Our phones must be set for WIFI calling to get reliable calls.
WIFI subscription
We do NOT have any monthly subscriptions for the truck to have its own WIFI service, if that is what you were asking, but I sure the phone is communicating for Fordpass.
At home, we park in front of the garage, with strong WIFI signal.
Question
1. Are you thinking I can/should disable cell (modem) communication, and limit the Maverick to getting updates through my home WIFI?
