Speaker Grill Removal

Anyone have a maintenance manual to look up how to remove the speaker grills? My drivers side rattle is definitely the grill since it is moveable and has just started to make a rattle now with 13K. I suspect it will get more noticeable as the plastic shrinks, wears and tolerances increase. They probably did not use any adhesive backed felt or rubber strip on them or they were poorly installed which is what I found on a lot of the sound deadening material on the Maverick. The grills look like they may pop out but I do not want to break them not knowing where the points are to release the tabs. Knowing Ford they probably are not removeable without taking out the dash!

If they don't come out them it's either some Orings cut and forced into the joints or black or clear silicone pressed into the joints to see if that can stop the grill movement and hopefully the rattle maybe. Probably a cheap plastic part just sitting on top of another plastic or metal part without enough pressure on them. I can stop the rattle applying a lttle force on the grill top.

I would search the forum for folks who have upgraded their speakers. Many of them have detailed pictures which may help you. Or try YouTube. Good luck, those rattles are annoying.

But I found the center speaker grille was solid, and the side speaker grilles were more likely to be rattling against the A pillar trim than against the dash. So pulling the A pillar and placing something soft between it and the grill may eliminate the need to lift the side speaker grille.

My biggest problem now is a periodic creak coming from the defrost ductwork, which is buried deep in the dash and inaccessible. I haven’t heard of others with this problem, so I’m still trying to track it down.

Best to pry them up using a plastic trim removal tool. They are held in place by number of push clips. But be careful to put something behind the tool so it doesn’t dig into the main dash plastic, which is very, very susceptible to being gouged.

Thanks...I'll give that a shot first with some felt material and see if it resolves it.
